Dear........,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Salman,
I am writing on behalf of Gill Entertainment Company to invite you to be a special guest at the opening ceremony of our new theatre.
Our company is planning to open a modern theatre in the centre of Toronto near CN tower next month. As other theatre in that area are old now, we are using new technology to make seats more comfortable by providing heating in seats and giving options to move their seats up or down. Moreover, viewers will be able to order food online for them selves using our application while enjoying movies and food will be delivered to their seats.
We would be honoured if you could attend the opening ceremony and officially inaugurate the theatre. The event is scheduled for 1 December at 12 p.m. We would also be delighted if you could share few valuable words with other guests. Additionally, there will special seating and food arrangements for you.
Considering your remarkable contribution to the entertainment industry, there can not be right person to open our new theatre other than you. As you have been taking measures to improve quality of films and also helping poor people to survive by donating money, everyone became your fans and they all want to see you there.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Sincerely,
Gill entertainment Team.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: it describes the theatre’s location and modern features, invites Salman to inaugurate it, and explains his suitability through his industry contribution and charitable work. The invitation is practical and specific, with the date, time, and offer to speak included. These details make the purpose clear and the ideas are generally extended with relevant support. The explanation of his suitability is somewhat broad, however: claims that “everyone became your fans” and that “they all want to see you there” are general rather than supported with a more specific reason for his connection to the theatre or its audience. A more precise, personalised justification would strengthen an already complete response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear and appropriate progression: the opening states its purpose, the next paragraph describes the venue, and the later paragraphs make the invitation and explain why the actor is suitable. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Additionally,” and “Considering” guide the reader through the points. The sequence is easy to follow, though some transitions feel formulaic, and the long theatre-description sentence combines several features without much separation. The reference to “everyone” and “they” is understandable but broad. To make the organisation more polished, vary the linking methods and use shorter sentences or clearer grouping when listing the theatre’s facilities.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for a formal invitation and includes some useful, task-specific expressions, such as “opening ceremony,” “officially inaugurate,” “remarkable contribution,” and “special seating.” These choices communicate the purpose effectively and show some awareness of formal style. However, several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, including “other theatre in that area are old now,” “options to move their seats up or down,” and “helping poor people to survive.” “Share few valuable words” also needs a more natural expression. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and flexibility. Aim for more idiomatic collocations and exact wording when describing the actor’s charitable work and the theatre’s facilities.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the conditional invitation “We would be honoured if you could attend” and the subordinate clause beginning “As you have been taking measures…”. Most ideas remain clear, but some grammatical errors occur. Examples include “As other theatre… are old,” where the noun needs a plural form and the verb must agree, and “there will special seating,” which is missing “be.” In “share few valuable words,” an article is needed, while “everyone became your fans” has an awkward tense and agreement pattern. The sentence about ordering food also becomes structurally crowded. Review articles, plural agreement, and auxiliary verbs, and divide longer sentences to improve control.
