Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, people have access to a wide range of products and treatments designed to make them look younger. Although some people believe that this trend encourages unnecessary spending and unrealistic beauty standards, I believe it is largely a positive development, Provided that such treatments are used wisely.
One major advantage is that these products and procedures can boost people's confidence and self-esteem. Ageing can bring visible changes such as wrinkles, grey hair and sagging skin; which may make some individuals feel uncomfortable about their appearance. If a person chooses to use skincare products, undergo a non-invasive treatment or change their hairstyle, there is nothing inherently wrong with wanting to look more attractive. For example, someone who feels self-concious about facial wrinkles may use a dermatologists-recommended treatment and subsequently feel much more confident in social and professional situations.
Another benefit is that growing demand for anti-ageing products has encouraged the development of more technologies. Msny modern procedures are safer and less invasive than those available in the past. In addition, people can now receive professional advice from dermatollogists and other qualified practitioners instead og relying solely on on unverified beauty products. This can make certain treatments both effective and safer.
However, there are also some drawbacks. The beaty industry can create unrealistic expectation abou ageing , particularly through heavily edited photographs on social media. As a result, some people may become obsessed with maintaining a youthful appearance and spend excessive amounts of money on unnecessary procedures. In extreme cases, repeated surgery can even damage a person's physical and psychological well-being.
In conclusion, I believe that the availability of anti-ageing products and treatments is more benficial than harmful. They can improve confidence and provide people with greater control over their apperarance, but they should be used in moderation and with realistic expectations about the natural ageing process.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the trend is largely positive while acknowledging potential drawbacks. The ideas are well-developed, with specific examples such as the boost in confidence from dermatological treatments and the risks associated with social media-driven expectations. The argument is balanced and logically structured, meeting the requirements for a well-supported essay. The position is consistent throughout the response, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and cohesive devices such as 'One major advantage', 'Another benefit', and 'In addition' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the benefits from the drawbacks. While the flow is generally smooth, there is a minor punctuation error in the second paragraph (a semicolon used incorrectly before 'which'), but this does not impede the overall coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient and appropriate for the task. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'non-invasive', 'dermatologists', and 'psychological well-being' effectively. There are some spelling errors, such as 'Msny', 'dermatollogists', 'og', 'beaty', and 'benficial', which are likely slips but occur frequently enough to be noticeable. Despite these minor inaccuracies, the range of vocabulary is adequate to convey complex ideas clearly and with some precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a solid attempt at using complex grammatical forms, such as conditional clauses ('If a person chooses...') and participial phrases. While there are occasional errors in punctuation and spelling, the majority of the sentences are error-free and clear. The control of grammar is generally strong, and the errors present do not cause any difficulty for the reader or impede the communication of the intended message.
