Student answer (Band 7.0)

In recent times, it has become feasible for individuals to purchase age reversing products and afford beauty treatments, which may create a youthful appearnce. In my view, it is a negative development as such products and treatments not only create unrealistic expectations among consumers but also have detrimental side effects in the long run.

The primary reason is that such treatments make consumers acquire unrealistic expectations about their appearance. Since they are not equally effective on everyone and the results may vary from person to person, many individuals struggle to accept their true aging features and further seek more expensive products and treatments. Moreover, those who get some positive results anticipate that they will retain their youthful appearance for long time, however this is far from the reality as the results are usually short-term. Thus, most of the treatments which promote age reversal negatively effects psychological health of the consumers.

Another significant factor is that numerous products are tested on animals before being launched in the market for human use, which showcases the animal cruility behind this beauty industry. In addition, many scientific studies have identified carcinogenic and toxic ingredients in such products. For example, a recent death case of famous bollywood actress reported she was on Glutathione beauty treatment and had a serious drug interaction which caused stroke and death. Thus, beauty products and treatments associated with age reversal have serious consequences on health.

In conclusion, although some herbal products have proven to be a boon for the beauty industry, most of the synthetic products and treatments are associated with false expectations and deleterious adverse effects. Therefore, in my view, blindly chasing products and treatments to look younger is negative for the physchological and physical health of the individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have successfully identified both psychological and physical health risks, providing relevant examples such as the mention of the Bollywood actress to support your argument. The ideas are well-developed, though the discussion on animal cruelty, while relevant to the beauty industry, could have been more tightly linked to the specific topic of 'looking younger' to ensure maximum focus. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt with a consistent viewpoint.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'Thus' to guide the reader through your arguments. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct points, contributing to the overall clarity of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'detrimental side effects', 'unrealistic expectations', and 'deleterious adverse effects' show a good command of academic language. However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'appearnce', 'cruility', and 'physchological', which prevent a higher score. Additionally, while the vocabulary is adequate, incorporating more nuanced collocations or idiomatic expressions would elevate the response further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There is good control over sentence construction, and the meaning is always clear. However, there are occasional grammatical slips, such as 'negatively effects' (should be 'affects') and 'for long time' (should be 'for a long time'). These errors are minor and do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band. Increasing the variety of complex structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help improve this score.
