Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the availability of anti-aging products and treatments is a positive or negative development, taking a clear stance that it is beneficial. The writer presents relevant ideas, such as boosting personal confidence and allowing individuals to continue working in age-sensitive industries like entertainment. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on confidence touches on general social attention but lacks deeper elaboration, and the second body paragraph relies heavily on the single example of actors. While all parts of the task are addressed, the arguments would benefit from greater extension and a broader range of examples to reach a higher band level. Therefore, the response aligns best with Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, demonstrating an overall coherent structure. Logical progression is present, as each body paragraph introduces a distinct supporting point introduced with sequencing markers like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. However, referencing and cohesive devices are at times mechanical or faulty, such as 'impact positive in society' and awkward pronoun referencing like 'if people loss their skin and look older, they may not able to continue their work on those industries'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but internal cohesion requires smoother transitions and more natural signposting to achieve a higher band score. This performance corresponds to a solid Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-related terms such as 'professional career', 'social attention', 'entertainment industry', and 'surgical treatments'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'confidenece' (spelling), 'impacts on' instead of 'impacts', 'youger' instead of 'younger', and 'loss their skin' instead of 'lose their skin' or 'lose their youthful skin'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, these inaccuracies and spelling slips prevent the response from reaching Band 7. The lexical range and control fit comfortably within Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures and relative clauses, such as 'if someone looks younger than their age, people generally give more attention to that person.' Nevertheless, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including missing articles ('in older age'), incorrect prepositions ('importance on look' instead of 'importance on looks'), and verb form errors ('they may not able to continue' instead of 'they may not be able to continue'). While these errors do not severely impede communication, their frequency means that error-free sentences are not in the majority, which precludes a Band 7. Thus, a Band 6 is appropriate.
