Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, there is a worldwild trend ongoing about buying beauty products and doing treatments that help peoples to look younger than their original age. Although this trend has some disadvantage, I still believe it is a positive thing because it can improve individual's confidence and make them feel better about their appearance.

The positive side of this trend is that it improves people's confidence. To illustrate, when people go out in public, they feel more confident and communicate with other people more easily. They may feel comfortable meeting other people. For example, if some people have skin problems, they may use suitable skincare products or treatments to improve their skin. As a result, they may feel more comfortable with their skin and become more relaxed while talking to their family members and other people in public.

Another advantage is that beauty treatments and products help people to take care of themselves. Some treatments and cosmetic procedures can encourage individuals to pay more attention to their skin and health. For example, in south korea, many young and older people regularly undergo cosmetic and beauty treatments to look younger. They also cloese pay attention to their skin health and appearance.

On the other side, spending too much money on buying cosmetic products and paying for treatment proceduce to look young can have some negative effects. Firstly, these treatments can be very expensive sometimes, so many people have to face financial crisis due to this reason. Secondly, some treatments have some serious side effects on individual's health if they are not been perfactely done.

To sum up, although spending too much money on buying and paying for beauty treatments have negative effects on individual's life, such as financial problems and may have some health risks, I believe that it is a good thing because it can improve individual's confidence and make them more comfortable about threir apperance in public.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the positive and negative aspects of buying beauty products and treatments to look younger, and clearly states a position. The ideas are relevant, such as increased confidence and financial or health risks, but they tend to be somewhat repetitive and lack deeper extension or more specific real-world examples beyond general statements. For instance, mentioning South Korea is a good start, but it is not fully developed. Overall, the task is answered adequately, earning a band score of 6.0 based on the official descriptors for addressing all parts of the prompt with relevant ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate advantages and disadvantages, with topic sentences guiding the reader. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To illustrate', 'Another advantage', and 'On the other side', though some referencing and transitions can feel slightly mechanical. For example, 'Nowadays, there is a worldwild trend ongoing' flows into the thesis, but paragraph transitions could be smoother. Progression is generally logical, placing the essay comfortably at a band 6.0 level.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items like 'cosmetic procedures' and 'financial crisis'. However, there are notable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'worldwild' instead of worldwide, 'peoples' instead of people, 'cloese' instead of closely, and 'proceduce' instead of procedure. While these errors do not impede communication, they restrict the lexical score. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, matching the band 6.0 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional clauses ('if some people have skin problems, they may use...') and concessive clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ('beauty treatments and products help people... they also cloese pay attention', 'treatment proceduce', 'if they are not been perfactely done'). Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments easily. This aligns well with the criteria for band 6.0.
