Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this moderenized era, every single person want to look good and they try to get expensive medical treatment as well as cosmetic products to look handsome and young. This trend raises an issue that is this a good or harmful thing for human life? I will discuss the reasons about how it can be a good trend among people due to feel comfortable.

One of the main reason why it is a good thing, it makes a good apperance in society. Moreover, by getting some medical surgeries, a person can alter thier body shape and face structure entirely, which help them to look younger than their age. For an instance, a lot of hollywood celebrities use these kind of plastic surgery and even they passed their 40th but still look like a young girl and has a beautiful face in community, such as Rakhi Sawant. Althought, this can be a good thing for a person who can afford it and know how to maintain it after, but now there are some fake companies making cosmetic products that may be harm human body.

On the other hand, it can create health risk because some cosmetic treatments can be harmful to people’s health. For example, surgeries and injections can sometimes cause side effects or other complications. If the treatment is not done properly, it can lead to serious health problems. Therefore, people should carefully research the treatment and consult a qualified professional before making a decision.

In conclusion, buying products and getting treatments to look younger can have both benefits and disadvantages. Although they can improve people’s confidence, some treatments can be expensive and risky. In my opinion, people should focus on healthy habits and use cosmetic treatments carefully.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing whether anti-aging products and treatments are a positive or negative trend. A clear position is presented in the introduction and maintained throughout the essay. Main ideas are supported with relevant examples, such as reference to celebrities and the risks of improper medical treatments. However, some arguments lack deep development; for instance, the explanation of how appearance affects society is somewhat brief. The conclusion effectively summarises the arguments presented. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs discussing pros and cons, and the conclusion logically. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'Therefore' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some referencing is slightly mechanical (e.g., 'One of the main reason'). Paragraph progression is generally clear, moving from benefits to risks and finally to a personal viewpoint. Minor mechanical errors in cohesion prevent the essay from reaching a higher band, placing it solidly at Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'medical treatment', 'cosmetic products', 'body shape', and 'qualified professional'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'moderenized' instead of 'modernised', 'appreance' instead of 'appearance', and 'thier' instead of 'their'. Additionally, phrases like 'may be harm human body' contain grammatical-lexical slips. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they limit the score to a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures ('If the treatment is not done properly...') and subordinate clauses ('Although they can improve...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('every single person want', 'One of the main reason... it makes') and incorrect verb forms ('may be harm'). Punctuation and sentence structures are generally understandable, but the density of grammatical slips keeps the writing at a Band 5.5.
