Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people are becoming more dependent on beauty products to look younger. I think it is bad thing for people to buy a expensive products and pay a large amount for treatment. This is because it is expensive, time - consuming harmful for health.

The major reason why it is a bad thing is that it is expensive and time -consuming. people have to spend lots of money to buy products as well as to take treaments. All individuals cannot afford them. Treatments sometimes can take around 6-8 hours to finished and have to regular visit to complete the whole treatments cycle. For example, people with midle class family cannot afford large amount of money. As a result, It can be expensinve and time -consuimg.

Another reason is that it can negatively affect people's health. The products are made with harmful chemical, which sometimes, affect individual's skin or hair. It is not always made with good quality. For instance, some citizens have suffer from hair loss and eczema, itching and redness on their skin. Therefore, excessive use of prducts and treatment can lead to skin diseases. In addition, people have infuenced by social media. they watch advertisement on beuty products and follow celebrities who influece citizens to become like them. Consequently, they spend most of their time watching instagram, facebook and YouTube videos instead of studing or working their own jobs. However, sometimes, being beautiful help people feel confident and motivated. Beauty products or treatment also give them an opportunities to become beautiful and nice.

In conclusion, although many products or treaments can make people confident and motivated, I believe it is a bad thing becauseit can ne expensive, time-taking and harmful for health. Therefore, people should think about their consequencies before using them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that the trend of buying anti-ageing products and treatments is a bad thing. The student supports this stance with relevant arguments, such as financial costs, time commitments, and health risks. There is also an attempt to acknowledge the opposing view regarding confidence and motivation before reaffirming the main conclusion. However, some ideas are underdeveloped or repetitive, such as the discussion around social media distractions, which drifts slightly from the core question of whether buying beauty products is a good or bad thing. Overall, all parts of the prompt are addressed, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as financial/time constraints in the second paragraph and health risks/social media influences in the third. Cohesive devices are employed, including transition markers like 'The major reason why', 'Another reason is', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, and occasional punctuation and spacing issues affect smooth progression. Logical flow is evident, making it a solid Band 6.0 performance for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and topic-specific terms such as 'treatments', 'harmful chemical', 'eczema', and 'confidence'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'midle' instead of 'middle', 'expensinve' instead of 'expensive', 'consuimg' instead of 'consuming', and 'infuenced' instead of 'influenced'. Furthermore, grammatical collocation slips occur, such as 'harmful for health' instead of 'harmful to health'. These errors do not impede overall communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses ('which sometimes, affect individual''s skin or hair') and conditional structures. However, there is a lack of consistent accuracy in complex structures. Numerous grammatical errors are present, including missing articles ('buy a expensive products'), subject-verb agreement issues ('people have infuenced'), and punctuation/spacing errors ('time - consuming'). While the meaning remains clear despite these frequent errors, control over complex grammar is limited. This aligns with the Band 5.0 descriptors, where frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause some difficulty for the reader.
