Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether spending money on products and treatments to look younger is a good or bad thing, presenting a clear position that it has both positive and negative effects. Ideas are presented regarding benefits such as skin care and career help for actors, alongside drawbacks like high costs and side effects. However, the development of these ideas is limited, leading to a somewhat superficial treatment of the topic. Furthermore, the response falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum requirement, containing only 197 words. This under-length issue prevents the full development required for higher band scores, leading to a penalty under Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into four paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs representing different viewpoints, and a conclusion. There is a basic logical progression from advantages to disadvantages. However, cohesive devices are sometimes faulty, repetitive, or mechanically used, such as 'For instance,' 'Additionaly,' and 'To Conclude, Although.' Referencing is occasionally unclear, and paragraphing could be better managed. Despite these mechanical issues, the overall arrangement allows the reader to follow the main arguments without complete confusion, aligning best with a Band 6 level for cohesion and organisation.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate to the topic, such as 'beauty products,' 'treatments,' 'rinkles' (wrinkles), 'elixers,' and 'sideeffects.' However, there are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'modren' (modern), 'poeople' (people), 'good' (goods), 'treatements' (treatments), 'inhance' (enhance), 'specialy' (specially), 'carrier' (career), 'disadvatages' (disadvantages), 'aswell' (as well), 'affetct' (affect), 'Additionaly' (Additionally), 'trestments' (treatments), 'devestating' (devastating), 'complaint' (complained), 'benifts' (benefits), and 'make themselfs' (themselves). These lexical inaccuracies and spelling mistakes cause noticeable strain for the reader, restricting the score to Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, as seen in conditional or concessive clauses like 'In my opinion, has both good effects and bad effects' and 'Although, productsor treatment to look younger has some cons but the pros outweigts the cons.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors, missing subjects, incorrect verb forms, and punctuation faults (e.g., comma splices like 'In this modren era, Looking more and more younger becomes...'). Errors such as 'Look younger' used as a noun phrase and missing prepositions are common. These persistent errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar at a Band 5 level.
