Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the positive and negative impacts of products and treatments used to look younger. The writer takes a balanced stance, acknowledging that while there are self-care and health benefits, there are also hazards associated with excessive use. Ideas are extended with relevant examples, such as mentioning glutathione and steroids. However, some arguments lack deeper elaboration. For instance, the point regarding early diagnosis of diseases is introduced but not fully connected to the main theme of anti-aging treatments. Overall, the task response meets the criteria for Band 6.5, rounded to 6.0 due to some under-developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is divided into clear paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs covering advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The advantage', 'Other benefit', and 'Lastly', but some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, though paragraphing within the body could be refined to better separate individual ideas. Progression is visible throughout the response, ensuring the overall arrangement remains coherent, aligning with a Band 6.0 level.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for the topic, including terms like 'advancement', 'cosmetic products', 'hazardous', and 'pigmentation'. However, there are notable lexical errors and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'life threatning' instead of 'life-threatening', 'latter stages' instead of 'later stages', 'loose' instead of 'lose', 'kindneys' instead of 'kidneys', 'malesma' instead of 'melasma', and 'seroius' instead of 'serious'. These errors occasionally draw attention, placing the lexical resource at a Band 5.5 to 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. Examples include 'In order to beautify oneslef and look younger some people loose their natural beauty.' However, punctuation and grammatical errors are frequent, particularly missing commas after introductory phrases and subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'Long term use of some products are harmful' (should be 'is harmful') and 'Use of steroids increase' (should be 'increases'). These errors do not completely impede communication, resulting in a Band 6.0.
