Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the trend of trying to look younger through products and treatments and clearly stating a position that this is a negative development. However, the ideas are somewhat unevenly developed. While the introduction outlines the writer's stance, the body paragraphs rely on sweeping, exaggerated claims—such as asserting that almost 80 percent of individuals die after ten years of surgeries due to skin irritation—which lack realistic supporting evidence. To move to a higher level, the ideas need to be supported with more plausible, well-reasoned explanations and relevant examples rather than extreme generalisations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary, earning its place above the lower bands. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as topical skincare products versus surgical treatments. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'To commence with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'To conclude.' However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel mechanical or repetitive, and some transitional links are slightly awkward. To achieve a higher score, the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs needs to be smoother, with a more natural integration of cohesive markers.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate to communicate the main arguments, demonstrating attempts at less common items such as 'deliberations,' 'cosmetics,' and 'experts.' However, there are numerous lexical and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including phrases like 'protect their skin to look more younger than age' and 'take a treatments.' Additionally, there are several word form errors, such as 'unnessary' and 'thier,' alongside awkward collocations like 'surgeries did by experts.' These noticeable errors and spelling slips restrict the range and indicate a limited control of lexical features.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues such as 'the products which is using' and 'surgeries did by experts,' incorrect articles like 'a treatments,' and prepositional errors such as 'survey conducted my university.' These frequent non-systematic errors in basic and complex structures mean that control over grammar remains inconsistent, limiting the grammatical score.
