Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response addresses the prompt minimally, stating a negative opinion regarding anti-ageing products and treatments, but fails to develop the ideas adequately. Crucially, the length requirement is NOT met, as the response contains only seventy-four words, falling significantly short of the two hundred and fifty-word minimum. The discussion is abruptly cut off mid-sentence at 'which ultimately increa', leaving the argument incomplete. To reach higher bands, the writer must fully develop their position with well-supported reasons and examples, and meet the required word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text shows some organization through the use of an introductory sentence and the first cohesive marker 'Firstly,'. However, there is no clear overall progression because the text cuts off abruptly after only two paragraphs. Referencing is basic, and the lack of a conclusion or further body paragraphs means that cohesive devices cannot be fully evaluated for logical progression across a complete essay. To improve, the writer needs to structure a full-length piece of writing with clear paragraphing and varied cohesive devices that connect ideas smoothly from introduction to conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic terms such as 'purchasing', 'expensive', and 'essential goods'. There are some lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as 'From my opinion' instead of 'In my opinion', and a collocation issue with 'a huge Tax are paid'. These errors do not entirely impede basic communication, but they restrict the range of vocabulary. To achieve a higher band, the writer should use a wider variety of less common lexical items with greater precision and correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing displays a limited range of sentence structures, mostly consisting of simple sentences. There are noticeable grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues such as 'a huge Tax are paid' where the plural verb does not match the singular noun phrase, and punctuation errors like missing spaces after commas, as seen in 'Firstly, the treatments'. These errors are frequent relative to the short length of the text. To improve, the writer needs to incorporate a better mix of complex sentence forms while maintaining tighter control over basic grammatical agreements and punctuation.
