Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years it's become more convinent to purchase beauty products or taking part in the treatments to gain younger look. Advistement with celebrities plays an important role in achieving the success of these products and on a longer run it leads to a lot of side effects by frequent use of these products.

To begin with, good manufactured products have well balanced composition of chemicals which often used by the popular celebrity this creates a lot of interest among the people to buy the product which is slight expensive. For example, a garnier company has more users than the rest of the companies because of the brand endorsement done by the the popular celebrity which has positive impact on the audience and has been beneficial to many users in the teams beauty and maintain the certain age

On the other hand, undergoing a treatment also creates positive experience as you look younger especially when a plastic surgery was performed on the face, this feeling only for a specific time period on a longer it has mutliple factors to leads a side effects. For example, a actor has undergone a mutliple facial surgeries to look young after 6 years he face was totally bludged and has resulted loss of fans.

Overall I prefer using the products like hair growth supplements or facial products which has good impact on the body and considering the fact to do some surgeries are safe to proceed, but majority of them has huge price and results in the lot of side effects in the longer period of time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the question by discussing both beauty products and cosmetic procedures, and your conclusion indicates a qualified preference for products over surgery. However, the position is not consistently clear: the opening focuses on advertising and side effects, while the conclusion says some surgeries are safe without explaining when or why. Several points are relevant but under-developed. The celebrity endorsement example explains why people buy a product, rather than showing clearly whether this is a good or bad thing; the surgery example mentions a negative outcome but gives little context or support. State your overall judgement directly in the introduction, then develop two reasons that clearly support it with specific explanations and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “To begin with” and “On the other hand,” and a concluding paragraph. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow, and links between claims are not always clear. For instance, the first body paragraph moves from product composition to celebrity endorsement and then to users’ benefits without explaining how these points connect. The second paragraph shifts from a positive experience to long-term side effects in a confusing sentence. Use clearer topic sentences and arrange each paragraph around one main reason, followed by an explanation and a directly relevant example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “celebrity endorsement,” “plastic surgery,” “side effects,” and “facial surgeries.” These choices show some awareness of the language needed to discuss appearance treatments. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or awkward expressions make parts of the response difficult to understand, such as “gain younger look,” “in the teams beauty,” and “face was totally bludged.” Spelling errors such as “convinent,” “Advistement,” and “mutliple” also reduce clarity. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe products as “marketed by celebrities” and explain that a procedure may cause “long-term complications.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including sentences with “because,” “which,” and “especially when.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors can make the intended meaning unclear. Examples include “products or taking part” and “which often used,” where the verb forms are not correctly constructed, and “a actor has undergone a mutliple facial surgeries,” where articles and number do not agree. The sentence beginning “this feeling only for a specific time period” also lacks a complete grammatical structure. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles, and verb forms before adding clauses. Shorter, controlled sentences would improve clarity.
