Nowadays it's possible for people to buy many products or pay for treatments that help them to look younger.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Currently, we are observing an immense increase in consumption of beauty products. Similarly, there is an upward trend to alter and modify certain body parts such as nose, eyebrows, cheeks etc for beautification. I believe we have to reconsider this approach. Although there is no harm is using verified and environmental friendly products, surgeries and treatments are exagerrated in my opinion.

Firstly, showbiz personalities and social media influencers have a responsibility towards their followers. If they use unnatural ways and promote the same, the results are obvious. There followers will try to replicate their actions. This creates a social problem where standard of acceptance becomes a physical trait such as fair color or wide brows. Although, applying sunscreen or cream that glows up your skin is fine, using and promoting extensive and expensive anti-aging creams and serums, call for reconsideration.

Additionally, we have started to observe more and more cases that are gone wrong. Understandably, a medical treatment can never have 100% success rates. To counter this, alot of people are moving towards organic products. These produtcs contain natural and easily available ingredients. The impact on the environment is also negligible. As responsible citizens, we have to do our part while chosing to look better.

Finally, the most important factor is the damage to our natural environment inclding but not limited to animal testing. Initially, all beauty products and treatments are tested on animals. Abusing animals for the sake of testing to develop a process or product, can never be justified. Additionally, while using such products, we have to be mindful about how these companies over-utilize natural resources and how wastage contribute to degradation of our planet.

In conclusion, i would agree that people do have the right to look better to gain confidence. Products they consume have a direct impact on their own health and bodies. This decision also contributes to the nature. Therefore, we have to be well-informed about the choices we make and their repurcussions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you accept that people may want to look better, but argue that extensive treatments and some beauty-product practices are harmful. You address the question through social influence, treatment risks, and environmental concerns, with relevant examples such as influencers and animal testing. This gives the response a sound, relevant basis. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that products and treatments are initially tested on animals is too broad, and the discussion of organic products does not clearly show how they address the risks of procedures. To strengthen the response, qualify general claims and develop each reason with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, three body paragraphs signposted by “Firstly,” “Additionally,” and “Finally,” and a conclusion that restates your position. The ideas generally progress from social influence to health and environmental effects. This makes the argument easy to follow. Some connections within paragraphs are less clear, however. The move from treatment complications to organic products in the second body paragraph needs an explicit link, and the final paragraph combines animal testing with resource use without fully showing how these points relate. There are also occasional awkward references, such as “the same” and “This decision.” Use more precise linking and refer back to specific ideas to make cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “social media influencers,” “anti-aging creams and serums,” “organic products,” and “natural resources.” These choices help communicate the main concerns and show attempts to use less common language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “upward trend to alter,” “cream that glows up your skin,” and “the impact on the environment is negligible.” Spelling slips, including “exagerrated,” “produtcs,” and “repurcussions,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise, natural phrasing and check spelling carefully; for instance, distinguish cosmetic procedures from products and avoid making broad claims about environmental effects without qualification.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including concessive clauses such as “Although there is no harm…” and conditional phrasing such as “If they use unnatural ways…”. Most sentences remain understandable, and the errors do not generally prevent the reader from following your argument. Some grammatical problems persist, however. In “there is no harm is using,” the structure should be “there is no harm in using”; “There followers” needs the possessive “Their”; and “wastage contribute” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “Although, applying sunscreen…” is also awkwardly punctuated and structured. Review agreement, possessives, and clause construction, while continuing to use varied sentence forms.
