Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I recently moved to new apartment with the help of your company. One of my friends recommended your company and it was my first moving things out experience with your employees. I am highly satisfied with the service you provided.

One of your employees Jack was very responsible while moving my furniture. I would appreciate if you let him work with me for my next moving out. He was very sensible with every item I had that was really impressive. One thing left me dissatisfied with breaking my antique mirror which was 20 years old and gifted by my grandparents. It was the only family haritage I really had.

Considering all these factors, I found some of your staffs did not put enough attention to the work while transferring the furnitures which caused me a big loss. Although it was not a big financial loss, I was definitely emotionally broken.

I hope, you will be more careful providing the instruction with your employees. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Zajj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requested points: you describe the move positively, identify Jack as particularly helpful, and explain that an antique mirror was broken. The detail that it was a family heirloom gifted by your grandparents makes the complaint personal and clear, while your overall satisfaction gives the letter a balanced position. To make the response more fully developed, explain more specifically what went well during the move itself; the opening mainly says you were satisfied, rather than describing the employees’ actions or the efficiency of the service. You could also state more directly what response you expect from the company, such as an explanation or compensation. The purpose and tone remain clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening explaining why you are writing, paragraphs about the employee and the damage, and a closing request. The progression from praise to complaint is easy to follow, and phrases such as “One thing left me dissatisfied” signal the change in focus. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some control of progression. However, the paragraph beginning “Considering all these factors” repeats the complaint about insufficient care without adding much new information, and “all these factors” is not a precise reference. Improve cohesion by grouping the positive details together, then explaining the damage and its cause once, before ending with a specific request.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes some useful, specific expressions, such as “antique mirror,” “emotionally broken,” and “family haritage,” which help convey the importance of the damaged item. You also attempt less common words such as “sensible” and “dissatisfied,” although “sensible with every item” is not a natural collocation in this context. There are several word-choice, form, and spelling problems, including “moving things out experience,” “staffs,” “furnitures,” and “haritage.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the complaint, but they limit precision and naturalness. Use standard collocations for moving services and check spelling and countable/uncountable nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “which was 20 years old and gifted by my grandparents” and the concessive sentence beginning “Although it was not a big financial loss.” The message remains understandable despite some grammatical errors. For greater accuracy, check articles and prepositions in phrases such as “moved to new apartment” and “appreciate if you let him,” as well as sentence punctuation: the comma after “I hope” is unnecessary. There are also errors in plural forms and agreement, for example “some of your staffs” and “the furnitures.” Revising these patterns would make your sentences more consistently controlled while preserving the range you already attempt.
