Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter to give my honest feedback about your service.

I booked your service last week and I have to say that it was one of the best services, I have ever received in terms of moving my furniture and possessions. Your employees came exactly on time, and started boxing first then loaded on the truck and moved to my new apartment safely. They did everything by their own without asking for any help.

There were 3 guys, they all did great job but harry was an amazing guy. He gave an extra ordinary service, he did not only make sure if everything moved safely but also helped me to arrange everything too. He suggested me that where should I keep my TV, study table and my other furniture according to new apartment.

Everything was great except the size of the truck. It was very small, so they had to go back 3 times. Therefore, it took little longer then expected. I think you should arrange the truck size according to the amount of furniture one has.

Overall, it was great experience and I hope that you will solve the sizing problems as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,

Rishi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explained the positive aspects of the move, praised a specific employee (Harry), and identified a service issue regarding the truck size. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to satisfy the task requirements. The letter follows the requested format and maintains a consistent purpose throughout, demonstrating a clear understanding of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Therefore' and 'Overall', to link ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect sentences more fluidly. Some transitions, such as the start of the second paragraph, feel slightly mechanical. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'possessions', 'extraordinary', and 'arrange'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'did everything by their own' (should be 'on their own') and 'suggested me that' (should be 'suggested where I should'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band. Incorporating more precise collocations would enhance the professional tone of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'it took little longer then expected' (should be 'a little longer than') and 'they all did great job' (should be 'a great job'). Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as the unnecessary comma in 'best services, I have ever received'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on article usage and comparative structures.
