Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing this letter regarding the removal service which i got from your company last week.

To begin with the great packing service. I was surprised to see that the moving team was at my door step about an hour early from the scheduled appointment which I felt helped us a lot during packing the home appliances. In addition, I would like to appreciate the minute details like securing the corners with layers of shrink wrap, strapping load accounting the proper load distribution and using fragile stickers along with foam packaging for glassware items. Consequently, a member named Mayank who was leading the time was not only helpful in terms of providing information but also guiding us for smooth transition to a new place.

On the other hand there were some area where I think improvement can be made. Firstly, the size of the boxes which they got were not accurate according to the size of items due to which I have to grab the correct one from my own expense. Secondly, the customer service. As when I asked them to redeem the amount I spent on boxes form the actual bill they mention that I cannot get refund according to the company policies instead I was offered with a voucher which I will never use.

Your sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: the positive aspects of the move, the praise for the employee, and the complaint regarding the service. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the specific details regarding the packing techniques used by the team. The response is clearly structured and maintains a consistent focus on the task requirements throughout, ensuring the reader understands both the positive and negative experiences clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose. There is a clear progression of ideas from the positive aspects to the areas for improvement. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', 'Consequently', and 'On the other hand' are used effectively to link ideas. While the transition between the praise for Mayank and the start of the complaints section could be slightly smoother, the overall structure is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. You used some specific terminology related to the service, such as 'home appliances', 'shrink wrap', and 'load distribution'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'grab the correct one' (which is informal) and 'form the actual bill' (a typo for 'from'). Despite these minor slips, the range of vocabulary is adequate to convey your meaning clearly and effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'the size of the boxes which they got were not accurate' (subject-verb agreement) and 'a member named Mayank who was leading the time' (likely meant 'team'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and capitalization issues, such as 'i' instead of 'I' and 'Your sincerely' instead of 'Yours sincerely'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication.
