Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to provide my feedback for the services that I used from your company. I opted for the silver relocation package and I had a pleasant experience overall.
The helpers were punctual on the day on the movement. Moreover, they were also equipped with all the necessary tools needed for packing and loading items on the truck. I must add that that we were lucky in terms of weather as it was bit gloomy initially in the morning but I was happy to see the sun by the afternoon.
I would like to particularly thank Mr Amit for his extended support. He made sure that all the items were packed properly to avoid any damage. Additionally, he also helped me in assembling my office table.
I would also like mention that I faced some difficulties with the billing department as took a lot of time for approving my discount voucher. I won a 15% off coupon from an online game competition. The staff processing my application initially thought that my voucher was fake but then later after having a lengthy discussion with his seniors, he approved it.
Hoping that you will take necessary steps to expedite the discount processing.
Yours faithfully,
Achin Pal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: it explains the positive aspects of the move, praises a specific employee (Mr. Amit), and details a negative experience with the billing department. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback. The ideas are clearly presented and the purpose of the letter is evident from the start. To reach a higher band, the development of the negative experience could be slightly more concise, as the detail about the 'online game competition' is perhaps less relevant than the service issue itself, but overall, the task is fully covered.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which aids readability. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'Hoping that' are used effectively to connect ideas. The progression of information is smooth, moving from the general experience to specific praise and then to the issue encountered. The referencing is clear throughout, and the letter follows a standard formal structure, making it easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with terms like 'relocation package', 'punctual', and 'expedite' used correctly. There are some minor awkward phrasings, such as 'day on the movement' (should be 'day of the move') and 'extended support' (which is slightly vague in this context). However, the range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly and with a good degree of precision. The tone remains professional throughout, which is a key requirement for this type of correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The letter demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the meaning is always clear. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'it was bit gloomy' (missing an article) and 'as took a lot of time' (missing a subject 'it'). Despite these occasional errors, the control of grammar is strong, and the punctuation is used correctly to support the flow of the text. The errors do not impede communication at all.
