Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my feedback regarding your moving service.
Recently, I had booked your moving company 'Nick Movers' to shift my furniture and belongings to my new apartment. As your team is highly skillful, everything went well and according to plan on that day. Despite having numerous steps, your employees moved my stuff carefully and without any damage.
Your whole team was helpful and efficient but one of your team member 'Chris' helped me in packing my stuff and he even helped me to remove my curtains. I appreciate his effort and gave him a tip as well.
However, I was not happy with the size of moving truck because my stuff did not fit in. I clearly mention the quantity and size of furniture I want to move. Consequently, they had to make two trips to move all the possessions. This is the only issue I faced while using your service.
Thank you for such great service. I hope you team will choose the truck size appropriatly next time.
Yours sincerely,
Will Smith

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the positive aspects of the move, praised a specific employee, and identified a problem regarding the truck size. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that you provide slightly more detail in your explanations; for example, when mentioning the truck size issue, you could briefly explain the impact this had on your schedule or stress levels to further extend your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a polite closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Consequently', and 'Despite' to link your ideas effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate, with each paragraph focusing on a single aspect of the task. To improve, try to vary your linking words further and ensure that referencing is always precise. For instance, in the second paragraph, 'your team' and 'your employees' are used well, but ensure that pronouns consistently refer back to the intended subjects to maintain a smooth flow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'skillful', 'possessions', and 'efficient'. The language is generally natural and conveys your meaning clearly. There are some minor errors in word choice or collocation, such as 'shift my furniture' (move is more standard) and 'choose the truck size appropriatly' (select/provide). To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise collocations related to moving services, such as 'logistical oversight' or 'meticulous care'. Your spelling is generally accurate, with the exception of 'appropriatly', which should be 'appropriately'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional-like structure in the final paragraph and the use of 'Despite' to introduce a subordinate clause. While there are some grammatical errors, such as 'I clearly mention' (should be past tense 'mentioned') and 'one of your team member' (should be plural 'members'), these do not impede communication. Your control of punctuation is generally good. To improve, focus on maintaining consistent verb tenses throughout your narrative and ensure pluralization rules are applied correctly after phrases like 'one of'.
