Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to provide a feedback about the recent service provided. by your team. I had reserved your services to move my furniture and possessions from my old apartment to new apartment. I would like to appreciate your team for handling all of the valuables with great care.
To my surprise, John made sure that all the fragile items were bubble wrapped and placed in separate boxes with labels on it. This helped me greatly while I was unpacking and none of those items were broken. Team was very professional and was able to get the work done within the estimated time. All the boxes were labeled correctly. For instance, there were separate boxes for kitchen, bedroom, restrooms, and dinning rooms. Furniture which was dismantled was labeled in correct order which also helped.
I was initially skeptical for using your services because when I had called to understand the quote and availability, staff was rude and did not provide estimates and kept changing availability dates. It would be great if you can improve on that as there are similar reviews on Yelp. Overall, I would provide 4 stars on 5 for the entire service that I have received and kudos to John. I would certainly recommend your services to my friends.
Yours sincerely,
PK

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain the positive aspects of the move, provide specific praise for John, and identify the negative experience regarding the initial customer service. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the task are balanced; the section on the negative experience could be slightly more detailed to match the depth of the positive feedback.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To my surprise', 'For instance', and 'Overall' to guide the reader. However, some transitions between sentences feel slightly mechanical. The use of referencing is generally clear, though there are minor issues with article usage (e.g., 'Team was very professional' should be 'The team'). Overall, the progression of ideas is logical and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'dismantled', 'skeptical', and 'estimated time' are used effectively. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'provide a feedback' (should be 'provide feedback') and 'dinning rooms' (should be 'dining rooms'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions would help elevate the score further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several recurring grammatical errors, particularly with articles (e.g., 'from my old apartment to new apartment' should be 'to the new apartment') and minor punctuation slips. Some sentences are slightly fragmented, such as 'provide a feedback about the recent service provided. by your team.' Despite these errors, the grammar does not impede communication, and you show a good command of tense usage throughout the letter.
