Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Abhi and I had recently acquired ABC packaging services to help me move my furniture and possessions to another apartment. I am writing this letter in order to provide my personal feedback on the moving experience with your company.
To begin with, I really appreciated how easy it was to get details about your services and pricing was clearly outlined on the website. I had ordered for moving services with your company on the 4th of this month between 11am to 2pm. John and Casey arrived at my old apartment right on-time and started packing the smaller furniture first getting them out of the way. I really liked how professional they both were and super polite in asking and maneuvering my family members t from one room to another when required. They were super considerate of the kids around and had even waited for few minutes for them to move from their way.
I would like to specially mention Casey here as she was extremely polite and patient during the entire packaging , helped myself and family to pack our personal luggage even though that was not part of her job. She went really above and beyond in order to make this move happen in time.
Although one thing I would like to mention is that my sofa did go through some wear and tear while moving it from the apartment into the elevator. I would have appreciated if extra care would have been taken while moving heavy furniture. Overall I did like the services and would recommend my family and friends to opt for ABC packaging service in future.
Sincerely,
ABHI

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explained the positive aspects of the move, such as the website transparency and the efficiency of the staff. You also provided a specific commendation for Casey and identified a clear issue regarding the damage to your sofa. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening is more concise; for example, stating your purpose immediately is more professional than introducing yourself by name, as the company would already have your records.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the initial positive impressions to the specific employee praise and finally the complaint. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Although', and 'Overall', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions could be more sophisticated. For instance, the transition between the general service and the specific mention of Casey could be smoother to avoid a slightly abrupt shift in focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'maneuvering my family members', 'extremely polite', and 'above and beyond' are used effectively. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'acquired ABC packaging services' (which sounds slightly unnatural; 'hired' or 'engaged' would be better) and 'helped myself' (which should be 'helped me'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise collocations related to moving services would elevate the response to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'I had ordered for moving services' (the preposition 'for' is unnecessary) and 'waited for few minutes' (missing the article 'a'). Additionally, the phrase 'maneuvering my family members t from one room' contains a typo. Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the majority of your sentences are clear and easy to follow. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures and proofreading for minor prepositional errors would improve your score.
