Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to give feedback about the service I recently got from your company for the furniture moving.

First of all, I appreciate the service your employees provided. I am pleased to inform you that even in the future I will hire this company for moving my stuff. I moved from Toronto to Windsor and I was very concerned about the all my luggage because I lived in Toronto for almost 3 years therefore I have many important stuff which I want to carry in the Windsor. Your company provided great service because they came on time and they packed all things very carefully especially all the electronic items and then they put them in the moving van. After that, they helped me to move all the stuff from the van to my new apartment. I noticed that not even a single item of mine broke, which gave me huge relief.

Moreover, I want to mention the name of your one employee, he is very kind and his name is Alex. He helped me to organise my kitchen items which were not even mentioned in the service. Due to the packaging of all items, there was dust in my living area, Alex helped me to clean that as well. I gave him a tip for his service as he is a very good helper. In addition, I found that your employees lack the machines for moving items which makes it hard to move big and heavy items. I would suggest that you hire or own a few machines for them so they can provide service in a better way.

Thank you for your wonderful service. I will contact you in the future if i need any help about moving furniture.

Yours sincerity,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explained the positive aspects of the move, specifically mentioning the punctuality and careful handling of electronics. You also effectively praised an employee, Alex, and provided a constructive suggestion regarding the lack of moving equipment. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, ensuring the reader understands your experience clearly. To reach a higher band, ensure that your opening and closing statements are slightly more varied and professional, as some phrasing feels a bit repetitive.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', and 'In addition' to transition between ideas. While these are effective, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of your feedback, which helps the reader follow your narrative easily. The progression of ideas is clear throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'concerned', 'electronic items', and 'organise'. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'my stuff' (which is informal) and 'I have many important stuff' (which is grammatically incorrect as 'stuff' is uncountable). You also use 'furniture moving' instead of the more natural 'removal service'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive, informal vocabulary. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated synonyms would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'the all my luggage', 'carry in the Windsor', and 'I will contact you in the future if i need any help'. Additionally, the closing 'Yours sincerity' is incorrect; it should be 'Yours sincerely'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
