Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr. Paul,
I am writing this letter to formally provide a feedback about the removal services I recently took from your company.
Although I was extremely stressed about packing and moving stuff out of the complex, I must acknowledge that I was genuinely impressed by your team. Not only they helped me in transporting the items, but also assisted in packing crockery and decor items carefully.
Undoubtedly, all the employees were doing their job perfectly, I would really appreciate Jasmin for helping me in labelling individual carton, which was a relief while unpacking.
I was genuinely amazed by the speed all of them worked, and careful approach they had while handling fragile items. While the entire operation went really smooth, the operational hours was the only challenge I faced. On several occasions, mostly the moving is schedules for weekends, but your firm does not operate on weekends. Therefore, it would be great if the service could be extended apart from weekdays, hence making the job more convenient.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
Best regards,
Tim Smith

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained what went well, praised a specific employee, and identified a negative aspect regarding operational hours. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are slightly more developed; for instance, you could elaborate on why the weekend service is so critical for your specific situation. Overall, the response is well-structured and fully meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the task. You use appropriate paragraphing to separate your points. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Not only... but also', and 'Therefore' are used effectively to link ideas. However, there are minor issues with flow; for example, the transition between the praise for the team and the specific mention of Jasmin could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the letter is easy to follow throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'formally', 'genuinely impressed', 'operational hours', and 'convenient'. There are some minor collocation errors, such as 'provide a feedback' (should be 'provide feedback') and 'mostly the moving is schedules' (should be 'moving is scheduled'). Despite these small slips, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message with precision. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations related to business services to elevate the tone further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the 'Not only... but also' construction. While the majority of your sentences are clear, there are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'Not only they helped me' (should be 'Not only did they help me') and 'the operational hours was the only challenge' (subject-verb agreement error: 'hours were'). Punctuation is generally accurate, but ensure you check for subject-verb agreement and inversion after negative adverbials. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent a higher score.
