Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Adam Gilbert and I am writing to provide a feedback about the service I recently availed with your company. I am completely satisfied with the service. Especially, I loved how the team packed all the items in the boxes with foam and I was very impressed by how they wrapped all the glass items in bubble wrap. Not only they packed perfectly, they were also very organised in moving the boxes to the truck. I would like to give a special shout out to Tom who went out of his way to ensure that the moving is done on time.
Though one area where I think you can improve on is the quality of the boxes. The boxes were a bit flimsy and if you could improve the boxes, it would really make a significant difference and make the whole experience absolutely perfect.
I would like to thank you again for your service and I will be looking forward to availing it the next time I move.
Yours faithfully,
Adam Gilbert

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explained the positive aspects of the move, specifically mentioning the packing of glass items and the organization of the team. You also effectively praised an employee, Tom, and identified a specific area for improvement regarding the quality of the boxes. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback, and the purpose of the communication is clear from the outset. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task instructions, meeting all requirements for a high band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the task, which aids readability. You use cohesive devices such as 'Not only... they were also' and 'Though one area where...' to link ideas effectively. The progression of information is smooth, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. The use of referencing is clear, and the overall structure supports the development of your ideas without any confusion for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a formal letter. Phrases like 'availed with your company', 'went out of his way', and 'significant difference' are used accurately. While the vocabulary is generally natural, there are minor areas for improvement in collocation, such as 'provide a feedback' (which should be 'provide feedback') and 'availed with' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). However, these minor slips do not impede communication, and the overall lexical range is sufficient to convey your message with precision and appropriate tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The letter displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and your control of grammar is generally strong. There is a minor error in the phrase 'Not only they packed perfectly', which should be 'Not only did they pack perfectly' to maintain correct inversion after a negative adverbial. Additionally, 'the moving is done' should be 'the move was completed' to maintain consistent tense usage. Despite these occasional slips, the majority of your writing is accurate, and the grammatical errors do not cause any difficulty for the reader.
