Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sir,

I’m truly delighted to share my experience of choosing your company for its excellent moving services. I can confidently say the moving process was completed on time, with great care taken not only for the furniture but also for the house floors.

I specifically want to thank Robin, who was leading the movers. Although I was at work, as per your supervisor’s advice, I made a detailed video and explained everything that needed to be shifted. Everything was settled perfectly, and they even organized my new living space, including the kitchen equipment.

However, during my conversation with the leader, I learned there was no break allowance, which I genuinely believe should be provided to employees during their busy daily schedules.

I truly appreciate your service, and your employees were incredibly helpful. I’ll gladly share my feedback with friends and family in case they ever need assistance with moving.

Best regards,

Kishan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained what went well, praised a specific employee (Robin), and identified an area for improvement regarding break allowances. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands your experience clearly. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail about the 'aspect you were not happy with' to ensure the tone remains balanced and professional, as the current point about break allowances is a suggestion rather than a direct complaint about the service you received.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which makes the letter easy to follow. You have used appropriate cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'However', and 'in case', which help link your ideas effectively. The paragraphing is sufficient and contributes to the overall clarity of the message. The transition between the positive aspects and the negative point is smooth and natural. To improve further, ensure that the opening and closing salutations are consistent with the formal tone established in the body of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary that is appropriate for a formal letter. Phrases like 'confidently say', 'detailed video', and 'genuinely believe' show a good command of language. The vocabulary is precise enough to convey your meaning without ambiguity. While the range is sufficient, it is somewhat standard. To achieve a higher band, you could incorporate more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items related to moving services, such as 'meticulous handling' or 'professionalism'. However, the current usage is accurate and natural throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

Your grammar is generally accurate, and you have used a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. For example, the sentence 'Although I was at work, as per your supervisor’s advice, I made a detailed video...' shows good control over complex sentence construction. There are very few errors, and those that exist do not impede communication. The punctuation is also handled well. To move into the higher bands, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as passive voice constructions or conditional sentences, to demonstrate greater flexibility in your writing.
