Student answer (Band 8.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to provide detailed feedback regarding the service offered by your company on 4 September 2026. Overall, I was completely satisfied with your service however, I would also like to draw your attention to a few aspects of my experience that left me dissatisfied.

To begin with, the move was remarkably smooth and well organised. The team arrived on time, handled my furniture with great care and worked efficiently throughout the day. They carefully wrapped my fragile belongings and ensured that everything was transported without any damage.

I would particularly like to praise Daniel, one of your employees, who was exceptionally helpful. He was polite, professional and attentive to my concerns. He took extra care when handling my delicate furniture and made the entire moving process considerably less stressful.

Nevertheless, I was disappointed that my belongings arrived at the new apartment almost two hours later than expected. This caused some inconvenience, as I had arranged the elevator in advance.

Thank you for considering my feedback.

Yours faithfully,

Sukhdeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The letter fully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explained the positive aspects of the move, provided a specific commendation for an employee named Daniel, and identified a clear issue regarding the delay. The tone is consistently appropriate for a formal letter of feedback. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the opening paragraph. You have successfully met all the requirements of the task with a professional and balanced approach.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The letter is well-organized with a logical progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which makes the letter easy to follow. You have used cohesive devices effectively, such as 'To begin with', 'I would particularly like to praise', and 'Nevertheless', to transition between ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure follows standard formal letter conventions. The flow of information is smooth, and the relationship between the positive feedback and the complaint is managed well.

Lexical Resource — Band 8.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary that is appropriate for a formal context. Phrases such as 'remarkably smooth', 'well organised', 'exceptionally helpful', and 'caused some inconvenience' show a good level of control. The word choices are precise and contribute to the professional tone of the letter. There are no significant errors in word choice or collocation, and the vocabulary is varied enough to convey your message clearly and effectively without repetition.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0

The grammar is accurate throughout the letter. You have used a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively, such as the use of relative clauses ('who was exceptionally helpful') and compound sentences. Punctuation is generally correct, although there is a minor missing comma after 'service' in the first paragraph. However, this is a minor slip and does not impede communication. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and you demonstrate a high level of control over tense and sentence construction.
