Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to thank you for your service. Few days ago, I take help of your company while moving to new apartment. Your employees are not only punctual but also hardworking. I gave them a time of 9AM they reach before time.
One of an employee of the team named Raj, was so polite in nature. He did exactly what I told him to do. He was at the designated location before time to set up everything. He literally deserve a good hike in his position and in salary as well.
But I do not like the material handling skills of few team members. During moving one showcase get broken from one of your employee. That was close to my heart because it was gifted from my mother and she passed away. That was the only gift I have which was gifted by her on my last birthday which i celebrate with her.
I am thankful for your outstanding service.
Regards
Himanshi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: explaining what went well, praising a specific employee, and mentioning an unhappy aspect of the service. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the broken showcase, the explanation of the incident is a bit repetitive and focuses more on the emotional value of the item rather than the professional failure of the company. To improve, ensure that your points are balanced and provide more specific details about the service experience itself to fully satisfy the requirements of a formal complaint/feedback letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'but' and 'however' (implied), but the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between praising Raj and complaining about the team's handling skills is abrupt. Using a wider range of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', 'Regrettably') would improve the logical progression of your ideas. Additionally, ensure that referencing is clear; in the third paragraph, the phrase 'one of your employee' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'punctual', 'hardworking', and 'designated location'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'I take help of your company' (should be 'I sought the assistance of your company') and 'material handling skills' (which sounds slightly unnatural in this context). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to professional services and customer feedback, and pay closer attention to standard collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include tense inconsistencies ('Few days ago, I take help' instead of 'A few days ago, I sought help'), article usage ('One of an employee' instead of 'One of the employees'), and subject-verb agreement ('one showcase get broken' instead of 'one showcase was broken'). While these errors do not prevent the message from being understood, they are frequent enough to limit your score. Focus on proofreading for basic tense and pluralisation errors to improve your accuracy.
