Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
Hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my gratitude for the amazing service that had been done on 29 August. I wan to add some suggestions that could be used to improve your service for the future customers.
I recently bought a new house in Calgary, so I used your company to move my furniture from rented basement to an apartment. There were two workers who helped me to settle up everything carefully. It was not easy to bring all the stuff by myself. When I searched about the company, it has five star rating. The workers had done an excellent job and handled everything effectively. Besides this, they were responsible about their work, at the day of moving, they came on time and their job was extremely commendable.
Both employees had done excellent work but one of them was very helpful and kind. His name is Sam and he made a plan before loading things in a U-Haul. For example, he figured out everything in a written way, which items should go first and which ones could be at the last. His proper management made a big difference in moving from handling breakable items appropriately. His passion and responsibility towards work was really appreciated. I felt relieved on the day of moving without worrying about how things would run smoothly.
I would be extremely appreciated it if you could add some suggestions to improve your service. The thing that needs to be addressed is the vehicle’s capacity to load things. The U-Haul that was used on the day of moving was small. Because I had a lot of furniture and things, which were not fit at one time and employees had to do two routes to move things. I believe that hiring a U-Haul according to family size and furniture is extremely crucial to make it worthwhile.
Thank you for considering my suggestions. I look forward to
Yours sincerely,
Harjot

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You explained what went well, praised a specific employee (Sam), and identified a clear issue regarding the vehicle capacity. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the description of Sam's organizational skills. To reach a higher band, ensure that the purpose of the letter is stated more concisely in the opening, as the current introduction is slightly repetitive regarding the 'suggestions' for improvement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use cohesive devices such as 'Besides this', 'For example', and 'The thing that needs to be addressed' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the concluding sentence is incomplete ('I look forward to'), which disrupts the flow at the very end. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring all sentences are complete would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'commendable', 'appropriately', and 'worthwhile'. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'settle up everything' (should be 'settle in' or 'organize everything') and 'do two routes' (should be 'make two trips'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Focusing on more natural collocations related to moving services would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'service that had been done' (passive voice misuse), 'I wan to add' (spelling/typo), and 'I would be extremely appreciated it' (incorrect passive construction). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice to improve accuracy.
