Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing in response to your feedback request regarding the recent help that I took from your company to shift my furniture and belongings to my new apartment.

To begin with, I really liked your service because the employees who were on site finished the work in the specified time without any delays. Additionally, they handled each and every item with additional care and responsibility., especially the items that are delicate, such as the sofa-set and a dining table.

To be specific, I would like to appreciate Raj, for his outstanding work and dedication. He was very punctual and ensured that the shift is smooth without any damages. In addition to that, he not only help me to organize the items but also helped me when loading them in the truck.

Finally, I would like to call out an aspect of the service that I was not happy with was, the vehicle that they used to transport the furniture was extremely small. Owing to this, we had to detach the furniture into small pieces which created a significant inconvenience and discomfort. I would request that you should consider my request and upgrade the vehicle to a full size van to provide a good customer service.

I would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter, and I hope this feedback would help you.

Yours faithfully,

Raj Kumar Pratap

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain the positive aspects of the move, identify a specific employee for praise, and articulate a clear complaint regarding the vehicle size. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that the transition between the praise and the complaint is slightly more nuanced, though the current structure is perfectly functional for a General Training task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a single aspect of the task, which makes the letter easy to follow. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', 'To be specific', and 'Finally' to guide the reader. While some of these are standard, they are used effectively to create a coherent flow. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the positive experience to the specific employee, and finally to the area for improvement.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'specified time', 'outstanding work', and 'significant inconvenience' are well-chosen and appropriate for the context. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'help that I took' (better: 'assistance I received') and 'shift my furniture' (better: 'transport my furniture'). However, these do not impede communication. You show an ability to use topic-specific vocabulary related to moving services, which is a strength.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there are some grammatical slips, such as 'he not only help me' (should be 'helped') and 'the aspect... was, the vehicle' (the comma is unnecessary), the meaning remains clear throughout. You demonstrate control over tense usage, particularly when describing past events. The punctuation is generally accurate, though there are occasional minor errors. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and the errors present do not cause any difficulty for the reader.
