Student answer (Band 8.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to provide overall feedback about the services I received.
First of all, I would like to thank you for your constant support. Your employees took extra care with fragile items such as the television and my Italian marble dining table, which was so pricey. In addition, I thought it would not be possible to move all the items in a single day, but they completed it within 10 hours, which is so commendable.
I would specifically like to thank an employee called Sujal. He was extremely strong and hardworking, and he handled some of the heaviest items with great care. He was also polite, patient and cooperative throughout the entire process. Whenever I was concerned about any particular item, he listened carefully and followed the instructions accurately.
However, I would like to mention one thing which disappointed me to some extent. I scheduled the move at 10 a.m., but they arrived almost 45 minutes late, and because of that, I had to wait, which was extremely stressful. Although they apologised for the delay and worked efficiently afterwards, I believe the company should make every effort to arrive on time in the future.
Once again, thank you very much for your support. I would certainly recommend your services to my friends and family.
Yours faithfully,
Nidhi Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have fully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the positive aspects of the move, specifically mentioning the care taken with fragile items and the efficiency of the team. You also provided a clear, positive description of the employee, Sujal, and identified a specific issue regarding the late arrival. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and supported with relevant details, such as the specific items moved and the duration of the task, meeting all the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a polite closing. Each paragraph focuses on a single topic, which aids readability. You have used a range of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'First of all', 'In addition', 'However', and 'Once again', to guide the reader through your points. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of your feedback. The structure is clear and easy to follow throughout the entire response.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary that is appropriate for the context of a formal letter. Phrases like 'constant support', 'extra care', 'commendable', and 'extremely stressful' show a good command of language. While the vocabulary is generally accurate and natural, it is mostly functional. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate more precise or sophisticated collocations related to professional services, such as 'professionalism', 'punctuality', or 'meticulous handling'. However, the current range is sufficient to convey your meaning with precision and clarity, and there are no significant errors in word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0
Your writing displays a good variety of sentence structures, including complex sentences such as 'Although they apologised for the delay and worked efficiently afterwards, I believe the company should make every effort to arrive on time in the future.' The grammar is generally accurate, with very few errors. Punctuation is used correctly to manage the flow of your sentences. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and you demonstrate a solid grasp of verb tenses and sentence construction. The control over complex structures is consistent, which supports clear communication throughout the letter.
