Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to provide my feedback about the service that I recently took from Shift Movers when I moved into my new apartment.
To begin with, I really liked the customer service because they were so helpful throughout the process. In addition to that, they arrived on time and helped me to lift and arrange the furniture in the vehicle. Additionally, they folded the long tables and handled the fragile items with at most due and responsibility to avoid minor scratches and damages. Overall, they ensured the move was smooth and punctual.
To be specific, I would like to praise Raj, who took the initiative in the entire process and acted as a leader of the group. I really like his calm and composed nature because he handled the entire process professionally without any challenges when shifting the furniture. Moreover, he helped me to unpack the things carefully and assembled them accordingly.
Finally, I would like to mention about the vehicle size and its limited space to carry the furniture. It caused significant delays in our moving because it was very challenging to carry the entire furniture in one trip. So I would suggest that you should consider my request and upgrade your vehicle to a large truck, which can easily accommodate the entire furniture in one trip and provide better customer experience.
I would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter, and I hope my suggestion would help you to improve your customer service.
Yours faithfully,
Raj Kumar Pratap

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The candidate has successfully addressed all bullet points required by the prompt. The letter starts with an appropriate greeting, explains what went well during the move (such as punctuality and careful handling of fragile items), praises a specific employee named Raj for his professionalism and leadership, and highlights a negative aspect concerning the vehicle size and limited space. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the tone is appropriate for a formal complaint and feedback letter. All requirements of Task 1 are fully met, demonstrating a clear and well-developed response that covers every aspect required by the task prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with clear paragraphing, moving smoothly from the introduction to positive aspects, employee praise, negative feedback, and a polite conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition to that', 'Additionally', 'To be specific', and 'Finally' are used effectively to guide the reader through the text, although some transitions like 'mention about' are slightly awkward. The progression of ideas is logical and natural, ensuring that each paragraph focuses on a distinct and relevant theme.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The candidate uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a formal feedback letter, incorporating expressions like 'customer service', 'punctual', 'fragile items', 'calm and composed nature', and 'prompt attention'. There are a few slight lexical inaccuracies or unnatural collocations, such as 'service that I recently took' instead of 'received' or 'used', and 'at most due and responsibility' instead of 'utmost care and responsibility'. Nevertheless, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly and effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response features a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'In addition to that, they arrived on time and helped me to lift and arrange the furniture in the vehicle.' and 'So I would suggest that you should consider my request and upgrade your vehicle to a large truck...'. Control over grammar is generally quite good, with numerous error-free sentences. Minor errors occur, such as 'mention about' where the preposition 'about' is redundant, but these errors do not impede communication at all and demonstrate a solid grasp of English grammar.
