Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to share my positive feedback for your moving services.

I really appreciate your efforts, your service was phenomenal. The staff was punctual they arrive 30 minutes earlier and made the arrangement. On the moving day, they wrapped all the furniture and moved it easily it looked like in a glimpse they completed everything.

Although, all the employees were dedicated but I want to mention about David, he was the supervisor and seems to be experienced. Before starting he explained me all the the appropriate ways in which the furniture could be moved without causing any damage.

I don't want to put you guys down but if I have to mention an aspect where the service lacked it will be the uniform, all the movers were wearing casual clothes making it difficult to recognize. I also observed that some of the movers were not wearing proper PPE and gloves.

Overall, I loved the service and will recommend it to everyone.

Yours sincerely,

Suraj Garg

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explained what went well by mentioning the punctual arrival and the efficient packing of your furniture. Furthermore, you praised an employee named David who acted as the supervisor and explained the moving procedures clearly. Finally, you successfully mentioned an aspect of the service you were not happy with, specifically noting the lack of professional uniforms and PPE. The tone is appropriately polite for a formal letter to a company. All parts of the task are addressed well, demonstrating a clear and purposeful response that meets the general training standards.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a clear logical organisation, moving smoothly from a polite opening to the positive aspects, the employee praise, the complaint, and finally a friendly conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each distinct idea or bullet point. Cohesive devices are generally well managed, though some transitions could be smoother (for instance, using transitional markers like 'Additionally' or 'On the other hand'). Referencing is mostly clear, although the transition starting with 'Although, all the employees...' is slightly grammatically awkward for cohesion. Overall, the message flows well and is easy to follow from start to finish.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'punctual', 'phenomenal', and 'supervisor'. However, there are some minor word choice and collocation issues, such as saying 'made the arrangement' instead of 'made arrangements' and 'explained me' instead of 'explained to me'. Attempts at less common vocabulary are generally successful, and although minor errors exist, they do not impede communication. With a slightly wider variety of precise lexical items and more attention to collocations, a higher band score would be achievable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the letter. There are several good complex structures, such as 'Before starting he explained me all the appropriate ways in which the furniture could be moved...' However, the text contains multiple grammatical errors and punctuation slips, including run-on sentences ('The staff was punctual they arrive 30 minutes earlier'), verb tense inconsistency ('arrive' instead of 'arrived'), and missing prepositions ('explained me'). Furthermore, the double article 'the the' appears in the third paragraph. While these errors rarely impede communication, they prevent the grammar score from reaching the higher bands.
