Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Manan Modi. Recently, I used your service to move my furniture and possessions to my new apartment. I am writing to share my experience with your service.
To begin with, I really liked your service as it was very fast, smooth, and convenient. Your staff was professional and really helpful. Particularly moving one of my important glass cabinets worked out very smoothly.
I would also like to praise the work that was done by Rahul. He took charge of the whole move and took care of packaging every item.
However, there were some aspects of the service that could be improved. First, moving vehical that you used needs urgent maintenance, as the engine was taking too long to start. Furthermore, you should buy a big moving truck instead of the small cargo vans that you have now. It would help you to move more items at once.
Overall, I liked your service, but if you could implement these improvements, then it would help you to give better service to your customers.
Your faithfully,
Manan.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task well. You successfully explained what went well on the day you moved house, such as the fast and smooth service. You also praised a specific employee, Rahul, noting how he took charge and cared for packing items. Furthermore, you mentioned an aspect of the service you were not happy with, specifically the moving vehicle's engine and the need for larger trucks. The tone is appropriately formal for a complaint and feedback letter, and the purpose is clearly communicated throughout. The response satisfies all requirements of the prompt effectively, earning a solid band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter has a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Ideas are grouped into appropriate paragraphs, starting with an introduction of purpose, followed by positive aspects, praise for an employee, areas for improvement, and a polite concluding remark. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'To begin with', 'I would also like to', and 'However', which help guide the reader through the transitions smoothly. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, making the letter easy to follow and cohesive overall. This aligns well with the band 7 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, allowing for some flexibility and precision with phrases like 'professional', 'convenient', and 'implement these improvements'. However, there is a minor spelling error ('vehical' instead of 'vehicle'). You attempt less common lexical items with general success, although the vocabulary remains somewhat standard for a general service review. The word choices are natural enough to ensure that communication is never impeded, placing this safely in the band 6.5 or 7.0 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I really liked your service as it was very fast, smooth, and convenient' and 'if you could implement these improvements, then it would help you to give better service'. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as the sign-off 'Your faithfully,' which should be 'Yours faithfully,'. Additionally, 'Particularly moving one of my important glass cabinets worked out very smoothly' is slightly awkward in syntax. Despite these occasional errors, the majority of sentences are clear and do not impede communication, supporting a band 6.5 score.
