Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
The purpose of my writing today is to inform you about the feedback on the service that we received during the last week when we moved to our new apartment.
Overall, everything was very smooth, and carefully moved to my new home. The movers were on time, and they were efficient and fast while moving my stuff. They were professional, and they also handled my fragile items.
I would truly appreciate one of your employees, Mr.Steve. He helped me a lot while moving my furniture. He also helped me to arrange all the boxes, as well as helped me to assemble my bed.
However, everything was smooth and quick, but I was upset with one of the boxes. It came later than expected. I had to wait several hours just to receive that box.
Apart from this incident, I was pleased with your service and also recommended your company to others.
Yours faithfully,
Kevin Gohil

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The candidate has successfully addressed all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The letter explains what went well on the move (the movers were on time, efficient, and professional), praises a specific employee (Mr. Steve, who helped with furniture, boxes, and assembling the bed), and mentions an aspect of the service that was unsatisfactory (one box arrived several hours late). The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint/feedback letter, and the purpose is clearly stated at the outset. Although some points are relatively concise, they fully satisfy the requirements of General Training Task 1, earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is organised logically with a clear beginning, middle paragraphs addressing specific prompts, and a polite concluding paragraph. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as general impressions, the employee praise, and the negative aspect regarding the delayed box. Cohesive devices are generally used effectively, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical (e.g., 'However, everything was smooth and quick, but...'). Overall progression is clear, guiding the reader smoothly from the introduction through the body points to the final recommendation, placing it comfortably in the band 7 range.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items such as 'professional', 'fragile items', and 'efficient'. However, there are some minor lexical inaccuracies and slightly unnatural collocations, such as 'The purpose of my writing today is to inform you about the feedback on the service' (where 'provide feedback' would be more natural) and 'moved my stuff' (which is a bit informal). Spelling is accurate throughout, and communication is never impeded. The range of vocabulary is sufficient for flexibility and precision, deserving a band 6.5, rounded to 6.0 based on standard band scoring definitions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The movers were on time, and they were efficient and fast while moving my stuff.' There are good examples of dependent clauses and compound sentences. Grammatical control is generally quite good, though there is a minor error with punctuation and phrasing in the contrast sentence: 'However, everything was smooth and quick, but I was upset...' where using both 'however' and 'but' creates redundancy. Another minor slip occurs in 'He also helped me to arrange all the boxes, as well as helped me to assemble my bed.' Despite these minor lapses, the majority of sentences are error-free and communication flows without difficulty.
