Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

I am writing this letter to send you a response regarding the services, i got from your organisation last week.

I am satisfied by getting the help from your company to move furniture into my new home. Actually, the weather was little rainy that day and it was hard to do moving on that day,but your organisaton made all the arrangements in a proper way by covering all the furniture with waterproof sheets. Moreover, when they were taking the things to tranfered into truck, they were really managing accordingly so that the reflective items will be safe during transportation.

There was one of the best employee, whose name was rishiv. He was well- organised and giving the intstructions to others do the work carefully without hussling-bussling.He also gives us idea to put furniture into new house in a different way that was amazing. Our family appreciated him a lot for his job.

I want to express one thing that i disliked about your service is the charges are high as compared to others. your company charges $400 for 2 hours ,that is expensive and if we are just over more mintues late then they charge extra for extra 10to 15 mintues.

I really appreciated the efforts your employees made in moving.

yours faithfully,

Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The candidate has successfully addressed all bullet points outlined in the prompt. First, the letter explains what went well on moving day, specifically mentioning how the removal company protected the furniture from the rain using waterproof sheets. Second, a helpful employee named Rishiv is praised for his excellent organisation and ideas. Finally, an aspect of the service the writer was unhappy with—specifically the high hourly rates and extra charges for small delays—is clearly stated. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint letter, and all parts of the task are adequately developed, placing this response solidly at Band 6.5 to 7.0 for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is generally coherent and follows a logical structure with appropriate paragraphing for an informal/semi-formal complaint letter. Each paragraph deals with a specific prompt requirement. However, some cohesive devices are mechanical or faulty, such as the use of comma splices and abrupt transitions between sentences (e.g., 'Actually, the weather was little rainy...'). Referencing is mostly clear, though some phrasing feels disjointed. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, positive points, the employee praise, the complaint, and the sign-off, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts to use less common items such as 'waterproof sheets', 'reflective items' (likely meant fragile items), and 'transportation'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'tranfered into truck' instead of 'transferred into the truck', and the colloquial phrasing 'hussling-bussling'. Spelling and morphological inaccuracies are present, but they do not impede communication. The range is sufficient to meet the communicative requirements, earning a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing this letter to send you a response regarding the services, i got from your organisation last week.' There are several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including lowercase letters at the start of sentences ('i'), missing articles ('the weather was little rainy'), and tense confusion ('He also gives us idea'). While these errors are noticeable and detract from the overall accuracy, they rarely impede communication. The sentence structures are moderately varied, fitting the Band 6 descriptors.
