Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am wrting a letter to Takeoff Moving comapny regarding the feedback about their service. Recently, I used this comapny for moving my furniture and possessions to my new apartment. I had a great experience with this comapny. Their service is really good and quick. When I call them, John, a receptionist, schedule a day in just 5 minutes. On that day, two persons arrived, Nav and Jas, they me helped to pick my furniture and possessions and put into the van. All the things went smoothly. They both did some great conversations with me and I felt very homely with both of them. Moreover, Nav is very helpful because when we arrive to the new apartment, he helped me to picked my all the things and placed in the apartment. I was overwhelmed with this service.

Furthermore, there is nothing that I dislike about the service because they both helped me a lot and services of the comapny is also good. They also get a five star rating that's why I choose them. I was pleased with this experience. I hope that we will meet soon.

Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You successfully covered all parts of the prompt. You explained what went well on the day you moved house, mentioning that the two workers helped to pick your furniture and put them into the van smoothly. You also praised a specific employee, Nav, noting how he helped you place all your things in the new apartment. Furthermore, you attempted the third bullet point regarding an aspect you were not happy with, though you stated that 'there is nothing that I dislike about the service.' In general training letters, you must invent or mention a minor negative aspect to fully address the prompt's instruction to 'mention an aspect of the service that you were not happy with.' Because this bullet point was addressed by stating everything was fine, your task response is slightly underdeveloped here, placing it at a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

Your letter follows a clear logical progression and is easy to follow. You begin with an appropriate salutation ('Dear Sir or Madam,'), state your purpose, recount the events of the move, and close with a polite sign-off. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'When', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, your paragraphing is inadequate; the entire body of the letter is clustered into one large paragraph rather than being broken down into logical sections (e.g., purpose, positive aspects/praise, negative aspect, and closing). This lack of appropriate paragraphing limits your score for this criterion to Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to describe your moving experience clearly. You make use of standard communicative phrases such as 'great experience', 'smoothly', and 'overwhelmed'. However, there are notable spelling errors, such as 'wrting' instead of writing, 'comapny' instead of company, and grammatical word-choice errors like 'did some great conversations' instead of 'had some great conversations'. You also repeat words like 'comapny' and 'service' frequently due to a limited range of synonyms. These errors and limitations place your lexical resource at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as using subordinate clauses introduced by 'when' ('When I call them...'). However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb tenses and prepositions. For instance, you mix present and past tenses ('When I call them, John, a receptionist, schedule a day...', 'services of the comapny is also good'). You also make preposition and article errors, such as 'help me to picked my all the things' and 'when we arrive to the new apartment'. These frequent errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and prevent you from reaching a higher band score.
