Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to provide a feedback to removal company. I had recently used the service to move my furniture to my new apartment. This service was hired on 12th August 2026, which is the day of move.
In addition, I was pleased with one service provider whose name is Ted, because he took special attention to my delicated items like bottle, cookery set, and flower pot which were made from the glass. I really appreciate his hard work and dedication.
Although the work was perfect, I was not extremely happy with the time management. It took 6 hours more than I expected to complete the entire task. Mostly all the packages were ready to ship but I could not identify why it took so long time to board everything in the truck. As a result, I need to pay extra to my landlord because it was not completed in the given time period.
Thank you for the great service and I would recommend on managing the time and other aspects are good so far.
Kind regards,
Robin

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. First, it explains what went well on the moving day, noting that the overall work was completed satisfactorily. Second, it praises a specific employee, Ted, for his careful handling of delicate items such as bottles, a cookery set, and flower pots. Third, it clearly identifies an aspect of the service that caused dissatisfaction, specifically the six-hour delay and poor time management. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint/feedback letter, starting with the correct salutation 'Dear Sir or Madam,' and ending with a suitable sign-off. The ideas are relevant and directly address the requirements of a General Training Task 1 letter, fulfilling all parts of the task satisfactorily.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, each addressing a distinct aspect of the prompt: an introduction, praise for an employee, criticism regarding time management, and a concluding remark. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition,' 'Although,' and 'As a result' are used to connect ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of information is generally logical, moving from the context of the move to the positive aspects, the negative aspects, and finally a recommendation. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different parts of the message.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, though it lacks sophistication in places. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'delicated items' (an error for delicate), 'dedication,' and 'time management.' There are a few noticeable lexical inaccuracies, such as 'provide a feedback' (uncountable noun) and 'delicated' instead of 'delicate.' However, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter, and the range of vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as the concessive clause in 'Although the work was perfect, I was not extremely happy with the time management.' There are several grammatical errors present, including articles and prepositions ('provide a feedback', 'on the day of move', 'take special attention', 'mostly all the packages', 'I need to pay'). Furthermore, tense consistency is slightly flawed when shifting between past events and present consequences ('I need to pay extra'). Despite these errors, they do not impede overall communication.
