Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to provide feedback about the recent moving service of my furniture and possessions from my old apartment to my new apartment. I was very impressed by your punctuality. The U-Hall arrived at the exact requested time. The driver helped me load all the belongings and drove carefully to avoid any damage.
I remember Mr. Robert helped me load and unload my furniture. He assisted me to pack and place my belongings in a way so that there will be no risk of damage. Moreover, he was polite and gentle towards me throughout the entire move time even though I used more than my booked time slot.
I would appreciate it if you could consider reducing your charges slightly as it an expensive service. I was happy with everything except cost of the service.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing a positive response from you.
Yours sincerely,
Reena Rani.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explained what went well by highlighting the company's punctuality and the driver's careful handling of your belongings. You also praised a specific employee, Mr. Robert, noting his helpful attitude and polite manner during the packing and loading process. Additionally, you mentioned an aspect of the service you were not happy with, which was the cost, and suggested a slight reduction in charges. Your tone is appropriately polite for a formal feedback letter, and your purpose is clear throughout. Although some points could be slightly more expanded, all requirements of the task are met effectively, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptor criteria.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter exhibits a clear logical organisation and progression from the opening statement to the closing remarks. Paragraphs are used appropriately, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing specific aspects of the move, and a polite sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'except', and 'and' are used to connect ideas, though some transitions feel a bit basic. Referencing between sentences is generally clear, such as using 'he' to refer back to Mr. Robert. While cohesion is sometimes slightly mechanical rather than entirely seamless, the overall arrangement is coherent and easy to follow, making Band 7 an appropriate score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your thoughts with some precision. Phrases such as 'provide feedback', 'punctuality', 'possessions', and 'risk of damage' show an adequate resource for the task. However, there are a few minor lexical issues, such as 'entire move time' (which would be more natural as 'entire moving process') and 'it an expensive service' (missing the verb 'is'). You attempt some less common vocabulary items like 'appreciate' and 'possessions' with success, but the overall range remains fairly standard and simple in places, placing your vocabulary firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I would appreciate it if you could consider reducing your charges slightly...' which is a well-structured polite request. There are some grammatical errors, most notably the missing verb in 'as it an expensive service' and slightly awkward phrasing like 'in a way so that there will be no risk'. Punctuation is generally correct, and despite the minor errors, communication is never impeded. The control of grammar is reasonably good, but the frequency of minor slips prevents a higher band, making Band 6.0 a fair and accurate assessment.
