Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing to provide feedback regarding the moving service that I experienced on 26 July 2026 from 334 Albert Street to 73 Lorna Drive.

To provide some context, on the day of the move, I was a bit worried because my belongings included some precious equipment, which needed to be handled with extra care. The professionalism your staff showed towards managing my move is highly commendable.

In fact, one of your employees named John, was exceptionally skilled. What I found most compelling about him was the way he easily figured out how to place the heavy couch and mattress in the truck. Moreover, under his supervision, I did not see any scratches or damage to my belongings.

Although the service was highly professional, I was disappointed to discover that your staff did not clean the apartment after moving all my stuff. This has caused considerable inconvenience, as the owner reported me about that.

Being a loyal customer who has patronised your firm for years, I believe you will look into this matter for future jobs.

Best Regards,

Vishal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The student fully addresses all parts of the task prompt, covering the required bullet points effectively. The letter explains what went well during the move, specifically highlighting the careful handling of precious equipment and the overall professionalism of the staff. Furthermore, it successfully praises an employee named John for his skill in positioning heavy furniture and supervising the process. Finally, it clearly mentions the negative aspect regarding the failure of the staff to clean the apartment afterwards. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint/feedback letter, and the ideas are extended and supported well throughout, earning a strong band score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter exhibits a clear logical organization and progression throughout. The response is divided into sensible paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose such as introducing the context, discussing the positive aspects, praising the specific employee, and addressing the complaint. Cohesive devices are used adequately and flexibly, such as 'To provide some context', 'In fact', 'Moreover', and 'Although', which help guide the reader smoothly through the narrative. Referencing is clear, and the paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, reflecting a well-managed structure that supports the overall coherence of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, such as 'highly commendable', 'exceptionally skilled', and 'considerable inconvenience'. There is an effective attempt to use less common lexical items with a general awareness of style and collocation, like 'patronised your firm'. While there are minor unnatural collocations, such as 'the owner reported me about that' instead of 'the owner complained to me about that', the vocabulary is entirely adequate for the task and allows the message to be communicated clearly and precisely without impeding the reader's understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The writer showcases a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over grammatical structures. Sentences such as 'What I found most compelling about him was the way he easily figured out how to place the heavy couch and mattress in the truck' illustrate an ability to construct complex clauses accurately. There are occasional errors, such as 'patronised your firm for years, I believe you will look into this matter' which could be phrased more naturally, but the majority of sentences are error-free and punctuation is well managed. The errors do not impede communication at all.
