Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to express my satisfaction with your firm, which i recently recieved. Last week, I was discussing my concern about moving furniture and other household items, your company had been shared by all acquaintances. In addition to this, i am extremly happy with your unexpected service which your firm delivered to me.
The employee name Jay is very honest, co-operative as well as helpful. Moreover, he has abilty to handle heavy things as he moved all products to a truck with extra care by using cupboard boxes for glass products. He does not only assist with moving things but also write down the names on boxes for my comfort and convenience.
Although service was extremly great, truck was disappointed me as it's tire flatted while driving to new apartment which leads us to waste quality of time on road. Furthermore, the guy tried to solve this issue as soon as possible ,however, it took two hours to fix.
Thank you for considering my opinion.
Your faithfully
Harkamal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the prompt successfully. You explain what went well regarding the moving process, praise an employee named Jay specifically for his helpfulness and care with fragile items, and mention an aspect you were unhappy with, namely the flat tire on the truck. The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint or feedback letter, starting with 'Dear Sir or Madam' and ending appropriately. However, some ideas could be slightly better developed to reach higher bands. For instance, the explanation of how you found the company at the beginning is somewhat convoluted and marginally off-topic, but the core requirements of the task are adequately met overall, leading to a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into four distinct paragraphs, following a logical progression from the opening statement and praise for the company, to the specific employee, the negative aspect of the service, and the sign-off. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'Moreover', 'Although', and 'Furthermore'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, the sentence 'truck was disappointed me as it's tire flatted' contains referencing errors and poor linking between clauses. Paragraphing is present and helps structure the message, but the overall logical flow of the first paragraph is disrupted by awkward phrasing and slight repetition.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'co-operative', 'convenience', and 'unexpected service'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and spelling mistakes throughout the text. Examples include 'recieved' instead of 'received', 'extremly' instead of 'extremely', 'abilty' instead of 'ability', 'cupboard boxes' instead of cardboard boxes, and 'flatted' instead of 'went flat' or 'had a flat tire'. These errors do not impede communication, as your meaning is clear, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional or concessive clauses introduced by 'Although'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues, particularly concerning articles, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency. For instance, 'the employee name Jay is' should be 'named' or 'called', and 'truck was disappointed me' contains an incorrect passive/active voice mixture. Furthermore, missing articles ('truck was', 'to new apartment') and run-on structures detract from accuracy. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to place the writing firmly in the band 5 range for grammar.
