Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Kaj, a resident of Ottawa. Your company assisted me last week to move my stuff from Brampton to Ottawa. I received your letter regarding service feedback. I am writing this letter, about feedback on the services you provided.
I had very positive experience with your organization. Everything went very smooth, all the team members were very active and efficient. Team members packed everything themselves and loaded in truck very gently without any scratch.
Your employee Raj is a very hardworking and supportive person. He helped me a lot with
the cleaning of the new place. Additionally, he also helped me to place the furniture in the new apartment. The services your agency provided was outstanding.
I want to bring your attention to the billing part. The invoice your company raised, that has additional moving box charges, which was not mentioned during the initial stage. Let me know if those charges can be waived, it would be a great help.
My overall experience was good, I will keep your company in my mind for new moving.
Your faithfully,
Kaj

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You successfully covered all the required bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained what went well on the day you moved house, noting that everything went smoothly and the team packed items carefully. Furthermore, you praised a specific employee, Raj, for his hard work and support with cleaning and placing furniture. Finally, you successfully highlighted an aspect of the service you were not happy with, specifically mentioning the unexpected additional charges for moving boxes on your invoice. Your tone is generally appropriate for a semi-formal letter, and all three parts of the task are addressed adequately. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the consequences or specific context of these points, ensuring your ideas are fully developed rather than simply stated. However, your response remains clear and directly addresses the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
Your letter is structured with a clear overall arrangement, starting with an appropriate salutation and ending with a formal sign-off. You use paragraphing to separate different topics, such as the general positive experience, the specific praise for Raj, and the billing issue. However, the logical progression between some sentences feels a bit mechanical or abrupt. For example, sentences like 'I received your letter regarding service feedback. I am writing this letter, about feedback on the services you provided' feel repetitive and lack smooth cohesive links. Cohesive devices are occasionally used (e.g., 'Additionally', 'Finally'), but referencing and linking can be improved to make the transitions more natural. Paragraphs are used sufficiently, but internal cohesion requires greater flexibility.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrated an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully using terms such as 'organization', 'efficient', 'outstanding', and 'invoice'. However, there are some noticeable lexical and collocational errors that prevent you from achieving a higher band. For instance, you wrote 'move my stuff' instead of more formal alternatives like 'furniture and possessions', and 'went very smooth' instead of 'went very smoothly'. Additionally, phrases like 'keep your company in my mind for new moving' are unnatural in this context. While your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your message clearly, these inaccuracies in word choice and collocation place your lexical performance firmly in the mid-range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempted a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout your letter, such as 'The invoice your company raised, that has additional moving box charges, which was not mentioned during the initial stage.' This particular sentence contains a structural error (a relative clause attachment issue). Other minor grammatical slips appear, such as omitting prepositions or incorrect articles (e.g., 'had very positive experience' missing the article 'a'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though some comma splices occur, such as 'Let me know if those charges can be waived, it would be a great help.' While these errors do not impede communication, they demonstrate that you do not yet have consistent control over complex grammatical structures.
