Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Subject: Feedback on the furniture removal service
I hope this letter finds you well.
I am writing to provide the feedback requested after the service. Since the company sent enough people to move the heavy furniture, I really appreciated their assistance. This was particularly important because the furniture belonged to my grandmother and is close to my heart. Although the apartment is on the 18th floor, the employees handled the furniture carefully and did not allow it to get scratched.
Although both employees worked extremely hard, I am particularly grateful to Mr John. Thanks to his professionalism, I did not have to guide them when setting up the furniture in the designated areas. I would definitely call him again in the future and recommend him to others.
Although the overall service was excellent, the van they used to transport my furniture was quite small, meaning that they had to make two trips to transport all of my belongings.
Yours faithfully,
Manish

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The candidate has fully and effectively addressed all bullet points outlined in the task prompt. First, the letter explains what went well on the moving day, highlighting how the company sent sufficient staff to manage heavy furniture and successfully navigated items up to the 18th floor without causing any scratches. Second, it clearly praises a specific employee, Mr John, noting his professionalism and ability to arrange items without constant supervision. Finally, it addresses the negative aspect of the service by mentioning that the van was too small, requiring two separate trips to transport all belongings. The tone is appropriately formal and polite, matching the requirements of a business feedback letter. All parts of the prompt are well-developed and clear.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically sequenced and easy to follow. Ideas are well-managed across clearly defined paragraphs, starting with a polite opening and statement of purpose, moving into positive feedback and praise for a specific worker, introducing a constructive complaint, and ending with a standard sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'This was particularly important', and 'Thanks to his professionalism' are used naturally and effectively to link ideas together without feeling mechanical or overused. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, ensuring a smooth and logical progression of information throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates an adequate and natural range of vocabulary suitable for a general transactional letter. Phrases such as 'close to my heart', 'professionalism', and 'designated areas' show a good level of lexical control. While the vocabulary is generally standard rather than highly sophisticated, it is used accurately to convey precise meanings. There are no spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication. To push towards a higher band, the writer could incorporate slightly more advanced collocations or uncommon functional phrases typical of formal correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The candidate displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating subordinate clauses effectively using connectors like 'Although' and 'Since'. Grammatical accuracy is high, with the majority of sentences being error-free. Structures such as 'Since the company sent enough people to move the heavy furniture, I really appreciated their assistance' demonstrate sound control over complex syntax. Punctuation is accurate, and verb tenses are handled correctly when shifting between past actions (moving day) and current feelings or future intentions. The minor errors are virtually non-existent, reflecting a strong command of grammar.
