Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Subject: Feedback on the furniture removal service
I hope this letter finds you well.
I am writing to provide the feedback requested after the service. Since the company sent enough people to move the heavy furniture, I really appreciated their assistance. This was particularly important because the furniture belonged to my grandmother and is close to my heart. Although the apartment is on the 18th floor, the employees handled the furniture carefully and did not allow it to get scratched.
Although both employees worked extremely hard, I am particularly grateful to Mr John. Thanks to his professionalism, I did not have to guide them when setting up the furniture in the designated areas. I would definitely call him again in the future and recommend him to others.
Although the overall service was excellent, the van they used to transport my furniture was quite small, meaning that they had to make two trips to transport all of my belongings.
Yours faithfully,
Manish

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response fully covers all parts of the task prompt in a clear and appropriate manner. You successfully explained what went well by mentioning the sufficient staff and careful handling of heavy furniture, praised a specific employee (Mr John) for his professionalism and helpfulness, and clearly pointed out an aspect of the service you were unhappy with, namely the small size of the van which required two trips. The tone of the letter is polite and fitting for a customer feedback task. Your ideas are well developed and directly address the bullet points with relevant details, demonstrating an understanding of the task requirements. Consequently, this performance satisfies the requirements for a high band descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression from the opening to the closing. The layout is appropriate for a formal letter, and paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct points, such as the general positive experience, the specific praise for an employee, and the negative aspect regarding the van size. Cohesive devices are used naturally and effectively, as seen in phrases like 'Although the apartment is on the 18th floor' and 'Thanks to his professionalism'. Referencing throughout the text is clear, ensuring the reader can easily follow your ideas. Overall, the flow is smooth and the coherence is well managed, meeting the criteria for a strong band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
Your vocabulary choice is adequate and appropriate for the task, successfully conveying your message with precision. You use functional phrases such as 'designated areas', 'professionalism', and 'transport my belongings'. While most of the vocabulary is standard and precise rather than exceptionally sophisticated, it effectively covers the requirements of the prompt. There are occasional repetitions of certain words, such as 'transport' and 'furniture', but these do not impede communication. With a slightly wider range of less common lexical items and collocations, the score could be elevated further, but the current range is well suited for a solid performance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You demonstrate good control of grammar and punctuation throughout the letter. The text features a healthy mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including subordinate clauses introduced by 'Although' and 'Since'. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and grammatical control is consistently maintained across the writing. Punctuation is accurate, and verb tenses are handled correctly, shifting seamlessly between past events and current feelings. The minor errors or awkward formulations are virtually absent, indicating a strong command of sentence construction that ensures clear and effective communication.
