Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to appreciate your removal company, which i have recently used to move my furniture and other belongigs to a new place.

I must say the service provided was exceptional. Everything went in a professional way. The team youu sent was quite fast and was able to fulfill all the requirements. Unfortunaltely, i had to call your company an hour before the specific mentioned time due to, some personal reasons. But, thankfully your staff appeard on time. I would like to praise one of your employee named Kevin was so hardworking, helpful and kind. Even after being so invested in his work, he did not let me lift any heavy objects, as i was pregnant. He really goes beyond the expectations and helped me to settle things in my new apartment. The company must give him a raise.

But, i am unhappy with the charges applied to the service. The comapny did not mentioned that, apart from the per kilometer charges they will put fuel expenses on me. I am disappointed beacuse it has costed me alot. Whereas, there are many affordable companies available.

I request you to look into this matter if, the company has charged me unknowingly or not.

Hope to hear soon from you!

Your's sincerely,

Prabhdeep kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt. You clearly explained what went well on the day of your move, praising the prompt arrival of the staff. Furthermore, you highlighted a specific employee named Kevin, mentioning his hardworking nature and how he assisted you given your pregnancy. Finally, you addressed the negative aspect of the service by expressing your dissatisfaction with the unexpected charges and fuel expenses. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the tone remains appropriate for a formal complaint letter. The requirements of the task have been fully satisfied without any missing elements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is structured with appropriate paragraphing, dividing the introduction, positive feedback, negative feedback, and closing remarks into distinct sections. Ideas are logically sequenced, making it easy for the reader to follow your narrative from the initial praise to the final complaint. Cohesive devices such as 'Unfortunaltely', 'But', and 'Whereas' are used to connect ideas, though some transitional phrasing is a bit basic. Referencing is generally clear, and the opening and closing salutations follow standard conventions, although the sign-off contains a minor punctuation error. Overall organisation provides a clear progression throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'exceptional', 'professional', and 'expectations'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that detract from precision, such as 'belongigs' instead of belongings, 'unfortunaltely' instead of unfortunately, 'appeard' instead of appeared, 'comapny' instead of company, and 'costed' instead of cost. Despite these vocabulary and spelling errors, your meaning is never obscured, and communication is maintained successfully throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative clauses ('which i have recently used', 'Even after being so invested in his work...'). However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout. Examples include lower-case 'i' usage, incorrect comma placement before conjunctions ('if, the company has charged me unknowingly'), and incorrect phrasing like 'Your's sincerely'. While these errors are noticeable and show a lack of careful proofreading, they do not impede overall communication. The majority of simple sentences are clear.
