Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I recently got service from Advantage Services private limited to move my belongings to the new apartment. I would like to give a positive response in terms of the services given to me.

The shifting from one apartment to another went very smoothly, price and the quality of service was amazing, the staff was well aware of methods to shift house and also they took care of delicate items and transported it safely. Moreover, the team worked effectively and efficiently without damaging any furniture.

I would like to mention one of your staff person name Rohit, who is best in fulfilling the demands of the customer and was taking care of everything. He even help me setup my new apartment and didn't even ask any extra money.

One thing that I didn't appreciate with the service was the time that took to transport my belongings, it took 2 days to setup my new apartment and There was also not to much traffic on road.

I hope this feedback helps you to grow your business and also overcome your negative factors.

your Sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response effectively covers all bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully explained what went well, specifically noting that the shifting process was smooth and that delicate items were transported safely without damage. You also praised a specific employee, Rohit, highlighting his helpfulness in setting up your new apartment. Furthermore, you mentioned an aspect of the service you were unhappy with, namely the duration of the transport process despite the lack of traffic. Although the tone of the opening greeting 'Dear Sir' is slightly informal compared to the requested 'Dear Sir or Madam', the overall communicative purpose is fully achieved, earning a solid band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each addressing a distinct part of the task. The progression of ideas flows naturally from your general satisfaction to specific positive points, the employee praise, the complaint, and finally a polite closing statement. However, cohesive devices are somewhat basic (e.g., 'Moreover', 'Furthermore'), and punctuation errors in sentence separation occasionally make cohesive relationships slightly mechanical. For instance, run-on sentences like 'the shifting from one apartment to another went very smoothly, price and the quality of service was amazing' show weakness in punctuation management between clauses.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'delicate items', 'effectively and efficiently', and 'feedback'. However, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, you wrote 'got service from' instead of 'received a service from' or 'hired', and 'price and the quality of service was amazing' instead of 'the prices and quality of service were amazing'. There are also minor spelling and phrasing issues, such as 'not to much traffic' instead of 'not too much traffic'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are several run-on sentences and comma splices, such as 'the staff was well aware of methods to shift house and also they took care of delicate items and transported it safely', where plural and singular pronouns disagree ('items' referred to as 'it'). Additionally, verb tense consistency needs attention, as seen in 'He even help me setup' (should be 'helped me set up'). While your meaning is always clear, the frequency of basic grammatical and punctuation errors keeps this criterion at the band 6 level.
