Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Madam,
I recently moved to my new apartment and hired Move buddy to help me move my furniture and household items. I am writing to share my feedback as requested by the company.
My experience overall was great, I was skeptical in the begining because I had a lot of glass crockery and I was scared that it might break during the process of shifting. But to my surprise, everything went well and my possessions were handled gently and was packed with proper care.
All the team members were very professional but I would specially like to appreciate Farhan who was the most active and hardworking person. He made sure that each item is moved in separate boxes and labelled them so that it is easier for us to unpack and organise everything in the new place.
One thing that I believe can be improved is the transport service. The driver was not at all punctual and he arrived 30 minutes late to carry our stuff. It really disrtubed the schedule of our whole day.
Apart from that, we were really pleased with the service and we will definitely be recommending it to others.
Thank you.
Best,
Noor

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response fully covers all bullet points required by the prompt. The writer successfully explains what went well during the move, noting that fragile crockery and household items were handled carefully. An employee named Farhan is specifically praised for his diligence, labelling boxes and ensuring careful packing. Furthermore, an aspect of the service that caused dissatisfaction is clearly mentioned, specifically the late arrival of the driver which disrupted the schedule. The tone is appropriately polite for a formal semi-formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. The student meets all the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised and flows well from the opening purpose into the positive aspects, the employee praise, the complaint, and finally the concluding remark. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each main point given its own paragraph. Cohesive devices such as 'In the beginning', 'But to my surprise', and 'Apart from that' are used adequately to connect ideas, although referencing occasionally slips, such as 'was packed with proper care' lacking a clear subject antecedent. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally natural and sufficient for the task, demonstrating terms such as 'skeptical', 'crockery', 'professional', and 'punctual'. However, there are some minor spelling and lexical inaccuracies, such as 'begining' instead of 'beginning' and 'disrtubed' instead of 'disturbed'. The writer attempts some less common phrases like 'handled gently' and 'active and hardworking person', but the range remains adequate rather than wide or flexible. Communication is never impeded by lexical choices.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or concessive clauses such as 'I was skeptical in the begining because I had a lot of glass crockery...'. There are a few grammatical errors and slips, such as 'each item is moved' (tense consistency shift to present, whereas past is required) and plural-singular agreement issues like 'possessions were handled gently and was packed'. Despite these occasional errors, the majority of sentences are clear and do not impede communication, showing good overall control.
