Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sara,

I am writing this letter to share my experience of the moving which has done on 14 september 2026 , at location 950 portage parkway. On that day, movers were there 10 min before the time which shows there puntuallity and professinalium towards there work. Apart from this, they just bought the safety pads to rap up the furniture to avoid any incident. Moreover they were so quick that the moving was done in just couples of hoursand we reached at my condo location at the time of my elevator booking.

John, one of the mover to whom i want to highlight, were so kind, softspoken and giving advice for my glass crockry to avoid any mishappening. He just put all antique in a box with the barrier to secure them. Also he helped me to secure my persnal belonging, as it was not part of of his job.

Everything was up to the mark except the boxes which was provided to me on the same day of the moving. I didnt get enough time to put and manage the things according to my convinence. If it will get it some days prior, was easy and manageable to me, so i didnt have to do things in hurry.

Regards

Ant

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The candidate successfully covers all parts of the prompt. First, the letter opens with positive aspects of the move, noting that movers arrived ten minutes early and efficiently wrapped the furniture using safety pads. Second, a specific employee named John is praised for being kind, soft-spoken, and giving helpful advice about fragile items. Third, a negative aspect is clearly mentioned regarding the boxes being provided on the moving day itself, which created a rushed situation. However, there is a minor inconsistency in the salutation, as the prompt specifies beginning the letter with 'Dear Sir or Madam,' but the student addressed it to 'Dear Sara.' Despite this slight deviation in convention, the communicative purpose is fully achieved, warranting a solid band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall progression and logical arrangement, with each paragraph addressing a distinct bullet point from the task instructions. Cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this', 'Moreover', and 'Also' are used to connect ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is appropriately utilised to separate the introduction, the positive points, the employee praise, the negative aspect, and the sign-off. Referencing is generally clear, although the pronoun referencing in sentences like 'If it will get it some days prior, was easy and manageable to me' becomes somewhat confusing and slightly obscures the logical flow of that specific argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'punctuality', 'professionalism', and 'mishappening'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'puntuallity' instead of 'punctuality', 'professinalium' instead of 'professionalism', 'rap up' instead of 'wrap up', and 'couples of hoursand' due to spacing issues. Despite these flaws, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly without impeding the reader's overall understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. There are, however, frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Examples include 'the moving which has done on 14 september 2026' (passive voice error), 'John, one of the mover... were so kind' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'If it will get it some days prior, was easy and manageable to me' (unnatural conditional structure and tense usage). Punctuation is also erratic in places, with missing spaces after commas and periods. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar at a band 5 level.
