Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my great satisfaction wih your service, I received last week. I am thrilled to share my feedback that the team that was appointed to moving my furniture and other belongings was not only punctual but also polite and co-operative. Staff was efficient who knew their responsibilities quie well and was gentle with my things, throughout the process.

I would like to give shoutout to a particular employee Ramesh, who led the operations of the team that day. I appreciate the efforts that he took in the moving as well as the special mention about how he instructed his fellow teammates that some of the furniture pieces were fragile. As a result, he, himself showed how to pack them.

Since my new apartment is on the first floor, it was quite difficult to lift and unload my personal items with gentle care. Your company workers were not happy with that. Although they were cheerful in nature, they couldn't hide their anger and felt frustrated. Even though, their behaviour didn't hurt me personally, the shouted on each other while working.

I will definately recommend the service to my friends.

Yours faithfully,

Jamshed Khan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt effectively. The student explains what went well by mentioning punctuality, politeness, and gentleness with belongings. An employee named Ramesh is specifically praised for his leadership and careful instructions regarding fragile items. Furthermore, an aspect of the service that caused dissatisfaction—the workers' visible frustration and shouting at each other regarding the first-floor apartment—is clearly detailed. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of feedback to a company. The ideas are extended and supported, fulfilling the Band 7 requirements well, as all parts of the task are fully addressed with relevant details.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter exhibits a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct sections for the introduction, the positive aspects, the employee praise, the negative aspect, and the closing statement. Cohesive devices such as 'As a result', 'Since', and 'Although' are generally used effectively to connect ideas, though some transitional phrasing feels slightly mechanical, such as 'Even though, their behaviour didn't hurt me personally'. Referencing is mostly clear, and the overall progression guides the reader smoothly through the narrative of the moving day. This aligns closely with the Band 7 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, allowing for some flexibility and precision with terms like 'punctual', 'co-operative', 'fragile', and 'frustrated'. There are some spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'wih' instead of 'with', 'quie' instead of 'quite', 'give shoutout' instead of 'give a shout-out', and 'the shouted' instead of 'they shouted'. However, these minor errors do not impede communication, and the writer attempts less common items like 'appreciate the efforts' and 'personal items with gentle care', which places this firmly at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses ('the team that was appointed to moving my furniture') and subordinate clauses ('Since my new apartment is on the first floor...'). There are several grammatical errors present, such as 'appointed to moving' (instead of 'appointed to move'), missing articles ('Staff was efficient'), and a punctuation error with commas surrounding clauses. Despite these recurring errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and communication is not impeded. This demonstrates the control and error frequency characteristic of Band 6.
