Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir ,

I hope you are doing well . I want to write this letter to you to give feedback about the work done by your removal company . The first thing which I liked the most is time management as they came on the exact time at 4:30pm and employees moved my all packed bags , furniture and other important stuff in van properly on time and also moved to my next apartment around 6pm.

I would like to appreciate one of the staff member named Jaskirat who helped me alot for arranging my furniture after moving all the items and other workers also assisted me in moving my bags and items from van to the new apartment. As containers and bags were quite heavy , I was not able to lifting the; therefore they told me that they will bring to inside I can just watch . Hence , I praise of Jaskirat and others workers too.

I personally believe that the charge of this service was too much because my new apartment was not too far from previous one and its almost 3km away; however , they charged $500 from me which is too expensive that I do not like.

Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The candidate successfully covers all bullet points required in the task instructions. The letter explains what went well by highlighting the punctual time management ("they came on the exact time at 4:30pm"), praises a specific employee ("Jaskirat who helped me alot"), and clearly mentions the aspect of the service that caused dissatisfaction, which was the high price relative to the short distance ("they charged $500 from me which is too expensive"). The tone is appropriate for a formal complaint/feedback letter to a company, although the salutation is slightly informal ("Dear Sir"). All parts of the prompt are addressed adequately, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 6 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear sequence of paragraphs tackling different aspects of the prompt (general experience, employee praise, and the complaint). However, paragraphing is somewhat basic and the flow between ideas is occasionally hindered by mechanical cohesive devices and run-on sentences, such as "...on time and also moved to my next apartment around 6pm." The referencing pronouns are mostly clear, but punctuation errors at paragraph boundaries and within sentences prevent a higher score. Overall, the organization is logical enough to follow easily, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the student's message with a mix of everyday and some attempt at less common items, such as "time management" and "container". However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation issues, such as "on the exact time" (instead of *at the exact time*), "moved my all packed bags" (word order error), and "charge of this service" (instead of *cost* or *fees*). These inaccuracies do not impede communication, placing the response firmly in the Band 6 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including preposition and article issues ("at 4:30pm", "in van"), incorrect verb forms ("not able to lifting the; therefore they told me that they will bring to inside"), and punctuation errors such as spacing before commas and periods. While these errors are frequent and cause some awkwardness, the core message remains comprehensible, which is characteristic of a Band 5.5 to 6.0 performance. We award a Band 5.5 due to the density of basic structural errors.
