Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The candidate has addressed all parts of the prompt by explaining what went well, praising a specific employee (Mr. John), and mentioning an aspect of the service that was unsatisfactory (the late arrival, unlabeled boxes, and damaged furniture). However, the response falls short of the minimum length requirement of 150 words, containing only 139 words. This under-length impacts the overall development and fullness of the response, as the ideas remain somewhat brief and abrupt. Because the word count requirement is explicitly noted as not met, a penalty must be applied to Task Achievement, restricting the band score to 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter opens with an inappropriate greeting ("Dear Sir, Hello, My name is...") rather than the standard convention for a formal complaint letter. The progression of ideas is slightly disjointed, with transitions like "Moreover, I would like to say about an employee" and "Any how the work was good by your company. next" feeling mechanical or abrupt. Paragraphing is not used effectively to separate distinct points, and the concluding sentences trail off awkwardly. While the overall purpose of the letter is understandable, the logical flow and cohesive management place this response firmly in the Band 5 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as "Approuched" instead of approached, "apprieciate" instead of appreciate, and "excllent" instead of excellent. The candidate attempts some less common vocabulary items like "fragile items" and "possessions," but these are undermined by frequent lexical inaccuracies ("prior watching my apartment" and "destroy an expensive furniture"). These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited, minimally adequate range that aligns with a Band 5 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences joined by commas or basic conjunctions. There are frequent, noticeable errors in punctuation, capitalization, and tense consistency, such as "one of the employee destroy an expensive furniture and its was a gift" (plural/singular agreement and pronoun errors) and run-on sentences like "prior watching my apartment after performance of all the furniture placing in a well manner we apprieciate you staff." Complex sentences are attempted but are generally faulty. These errors cause frequent comprehension difficulties for the reader, justifying a Band 5 score.
