Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to provide positive feedback on your excellent customer service in response to your letter.
I would like to express my appreciation for your staff's efforts in moving my furniture and other belongings to the new apartment. It was on August 30 th from morning to evening. Your help started exactly as we planned and went very smoothly, including moving fragile items. Packing was excellent, and no breakage was reported.
I would like to extend my gratitude to one of your employees, John, who did a wonderful job carrying my aquarium. He was a helpful and understanding team member who did all kinds of planning ahead.
I would like to offer one suggestion to improve your service, which you can incorporate into your process. Your tracking process was too slow, and it is not responding when asking for an update.
Thank you so much for the five star rating customer service without much tension, and so happy to refer you to my friends.
Yours

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the task instructions. The student explains what went well on the move day, specifically mentioning the smooth transition and safe handling of fragile items, praises an employee named John who helped carry an aquarium, and clearly mentions an aspect of the service that was unsatisfactory, namely the slow tracking process. The tone of the letter is appropriate for a formal communication with a removal company, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. All requirements of the prompt are addressed adequately, leading to a solid task achievement score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with clear paragraphing, separating the introduction, the positive aspects, the employee praise, the complaint, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'I would like to express', 'I would like to extend', and 'I would like to offer' are used to structure the letter effectively, although the repetition of similar opening phrases is slightly mechanical. Overall, there is a clear logical progression from the opening purpose to the specific details and final sign-off, making the text easy to follow for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common and topic-specific vocabulary such as 'appreciation', 'fragile items', 'breakage', and 'incorporate into your process'. However, there are some minor lexical inaccuracies and slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'five star rating customer service without much tension' and 'not responding when asking for an update'. Despite these minor flaws, the vocabulary choice is sufficient to communicate meaning clearly and precisely in most parts of the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures successfully, as seen in sentences like 'I am writing to provide positive feedback on your excellent customer service in response to your letter.' There are occasional grammatical errors and awkward constructions, such as 'It was on August 30 th from morning to evening' and 'so happy to refer you', where pronouns are omitted. However, these errors do not impede communication, and the majority of simple sentences are accurate.
